410 Main used to be a whorehouse, years and years ago. 410 was originally a secret brothel in the early 1800's owned by the prestigious State National Bank. The only access to the brothel was a small door from the bank cut into the wall. Today all that remains of the original whorehouse is it's bevy of beautiful women. Well now it has reopened as one of the most happening clubs downtown!! With a good lookin, friendly staff and cheap drinks, you need to get there early or be prepared to wait in line. Trust me. Fridays and Saturdays, DJ Chocohlic spins a good mix of house and hip hop that keeps the candlelit bar hoppin!!

Playboy magazine, named it one of the "top nightclubs in America," and Houston Business Journal's Executive Dining Guide Reader's Poll it called it "the number one nightclub," to name a few of the many accolades the club has received. The club remains a hot nightspot, where more than 1,000 people revel in the club on a busy night.

The is a serious dance club for the serious club goer..

Built in the old ISIS Theatre, Houston's original silent movie theatre, the Boaka Bar is full of drama and decadence. It is reminiscent of the traveling performance spaces of 19th century Europe and incorporates exquisite fabrics, existing architectural details, and an exciting two level venue.

Changing lighting and schematics emphasize the pulse of the club during the course of the evening. More than 8,000 yards of custom crafted fabric, with the image of the Romanoff double-headed eagle, are gathered from the ceiling creating an exquisite suspended tent. Finishing the interior, a colorful Venetian chandelier dramatically hangs from the center of the tent, hovering over the dance floor.

Club-goers enjoy the ornate interior under the watches of large sculptured heads of the Egyptian goddess Isis that hang on the walls.

Grasshopper, an Amsterdam-influenced bar, is located at 506 Main St., between the Rice Lofts and El Tiempo Cantina in downtown Houston. The original architect of the Tudor revival style building is unknown, but the building was erected around the 1880's. The last known renovations to the facade of the building were in 1928. The original tenant of the building was a barber shop. Then around 1917, a lunch counter became the new tenants. After some time, Barringer-Norton, fine men's clothes, moved into the space and eventually changed its name to Norton Ditto. Zales Jewelers moved in and took over the building in the 1930's. The building has been vacant since the mid 1980s. Houston's famous architect Isaac Preminger, designer of Spy Club and Sempers, was chosen to breathe new life into the 120-year-old building. The owner's have gone to great lengths to renovate the historic building into something truly unique.

The first floor's long, flowing bar is constructed of a granite top with a floating glass overlay. Beautiful, antique, gold mosaic, border artwork, dating back to 1917, is at eye level around the entire length of the first floor. Cozy banquettes are built along the wall with low cocktail tables. Grasshopper will be open for business Wednesday through Friday at 9 P.M

Redlights, an Amsterdam-influenced night club, opened its doors to the public on April 20, 2001. DJ Shaun Sutton, imported from Amsterdam, spins the music that will move your body over the 120-year-old wooden dance floor, specially imported from Europe. The jaw-dropping light show is designed by the sound and lighting professionals at Core Systems. Core Systems exclusively designed a unique piece for the dance floor; mirrored, mosaic, oscillating, stalactites to complete the lighting extravaganza. Red Lights' restrooms are adorned with antique marble vanities and crystal chandeliers.

When you're ready to let your body rest and rejuvenate, Red Lights offers private suites. The private suites are aptly named for their individual oil paintings, which have been imported from the Verno Gallery of Amsterdam. The rooms are lavishly decorated with Victorian couches and chairs, hand-picked marble cocktail tables, elegant crystal wall sconces, and heavy velvet curtains to compliment the room. For a small reservation fee, you can have your own secluded spot to relax for the evening. Advance reservations are recommended for the private suites.

Redlights Hours of Operation
Wednesday through Saturday 11 P.M. to 2 A.M.

Rich's - Houston

http://www.richs-houston.com/Images/dancefloor.jpg

During the summer of 1983, the grand opening of Rich's - Houston catapulted Houston's alternative lifestyle from the conservative grip that had controlled it for so many years. During this era when gay lifestyle was hidden, Rich's opened its doors with technological advances, a new attitude and the concept that alternative nightlife was to be celebrated and enjoyed openly, not hidden in the darkness.

Houston's hottest gay dance bar and Texas' premier dance palace featuring some of the best dance DJ's in the country! The club features Texas's largest dance floor with a floor to ceiling video screen, outstanding sound system and an incredible light show. On the upper level, you can enjoy watching the action and lights from the surrounding loft or enjoy conversation with friends in either the Video Bar or the Art Lounge where there are feature exhibits by local artists.

The club is open Thursday through Sunday each week, with special events happening throughout the year. You'll want to check out the Events page for details! See you there!

ToC Bar is jumpin'--literally. With a healthy dose of old-school hip hop intermingled with dance favorites, your body keeps dragging you back to the dance floor. This is the place to go with good service and great attitudes. You can be sure you will have a great time any day they're open, especially if you have a ToC-arita in your hand. And don't forget to bring your dancing shoes.

Aren't we going a little off-topic here? This is a World Skyscrapers and Architecture forum! Anyway, nice club scene you got there especially the women!!!

It's techinically a forum that deals in goings-on outside New York in general. Plus, if you want to split hairs, he does write a lot about the interior design of those clubs; that's architecture right there.

Quite a stretch. Supremo's right; this belongs in either Photo Shoot and Travel or Anything Goes.

This section is becoming a means for outsiders to promote their hometowns, and reminds me of the skyscraper forums and their inane topics.
