I wanna hear your opinion on which west coast city has the best skyline. I mean from the southern part of California all the way to British Columbia.

As for me, Seattle would be my choice for this one. It has several skyscrapers that are over 700 ft and is over looking the harbour.

Seattle would be my choice too. The drive along Alki beach is amazing with its view of the skyline. Or take a ferry into the city from the islands at night.

I like Seattle the best too. Unique buildings, great setting.

Los Angeles. I always wonder why LA always gets such a bad rep.

I also think that LA has the largest collection of modern architecture in the world!

I'd say San Francisco. The setting is just gorgeous and it's my favorite West Coast city.

I'll go with San Diego.

San Francisco was originally my first choice for this one but it's skyscrapers lack the height of Seattle's. LA on the other hand has the tallest buildings in the West Coast but it's skyline is not that impressive. Usually skylines look better if they were in a waterfront. If San Diego or Vancouver build some supertalls, their skyline would look impressive.

San Diego has a height limit of 500 feet throughout the city. Vancouver had a similar height constraint to protect views of the mountains until recently, when the City Council upzoned some places to +-600 feet.

Dont get me wrong, I really really like SF and LA as well, in fact i like them equally.

It's not the tallest skyline in the world, but it can still take your breath away...

Pigeon Point, California.

I would have to say Vancouver. Although Vancouver does not have the height, it is super dense with highrise condominiums and office towers. The backdrop of the mountains makes it look almost surreal.

Yeah! Go Canada eh? Lol, altough I love the Vancouver skyline (which doesn't have much height, but makes up for in scenery and just the sheer mass of skyscrapers, I do love the L.A. skyline. People give it bad reviews for its bulky skyscrapers, and it would look a lot nicer without the smog, it still is a great skyline.

Skylines only:

#1, by far: Vancouver- finding a 30-storey condo downtown is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Granted, only a handful of buildings are taller than 40 storeys at the moment.

#2: San Fran/Seattle- Good number of skyscapers, both peak to about 900ft, with a nice change in height throughout the downtown area.

#3: LA- a bunch of very tall buildings, but total number of buildings is rather small.

I'll say Seattle. For a city that size (less than 600,000) it's skyline looks WAY better than cities twice it's size (such as Philadelphia). Also, the mountains and natural setting makes it look even more magical. I'll say it's the American version of Hong Kong, when it comes to a skyline with a wonderful natural setting. Seattle takes to cake, IMO.

In my opinion -

1. Seattle
2. LA
3. San Francisco

You should add a poll to this thread.

I'll think San Fran's is better than L.A.'s. It's the density factor.

LA skyline has so little impact considering it has some really tall buildings in there and its in the least dramatic landscape.

San Fran has a great skyline especially including those bridges and the TA pyramid.

Seattle has the needle and the mountains providing great backdrop.

For me its a toss up between seattle and SF with LA a non event.

LA is so SPEAD out. I mean REALLY spead out. So it's downtown isn't really a "downtown"

Here is a picture of the city of LA in LA County(LA is in the red):

I have never been to the west coast of North America, but from an outsiders point of view 1)Vancouver, 2)San Francisco and 3) Seattle. Saying that its a pretty close run thing as i think they are all impressive.

Seen all of them and I shall take San Francisco any day of the week, followed by Vancouver at 2 and Seattle at 3.

No one has mentioned Portland?

Portland? Portland is the ultimate fly-over city.
