This is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, its mix of natural beauty and astounding architecture makes it almost surreal. This is a topic for general discussion of the existing buildings in sydney.

Sydney is a little bit of Times Squareand it has some of Hong Kong's neon lights. It's beautiful.

If you look from darling harbour towards the city at dusk when the lights are on it looks just like Hong Kong.

I think that this area of Sydney really needs more Skyscrapers, its a nice little clump right now but it could do with more.

JonY

emmeka LOL @ "its a nice little clump right now".....hardly as lots of clusters of talls are forming right before our very eyes!!

The ball is already rolling as far as Sydney's C.B.D. i.e. Central Business District is going.

Just take another look at the previous post where the buildings under construction are coloured orange with the key of what they are.

Some 7 that are coming on line (besides many others) that come immediately to mind....are all part of Sydney of the future.

Yes Im aware of those, but I wasnt referring to Sydney itself, i was refering to the 'clump' of buildings across the bridge opposite the city(on the road out of Sydney)

That wasn't clear emmeka however, they're all part of Sydney city, regardless whether they're all part of the main Sydney downtown or otherwise.

Here's Bondi Junction that's not across Sydney Harbour, but to the east.

Always Sydney is city of the future @ New Years Eve. Besides the mega-fireworks displays,
this coming NYE it is planned to have a super-duper laser show as well.

The theme of this year's celebrations is the City of Light. Apart from the
promise of a very special "bridge effect", there will be a Harbour of Light parade and the
"artistic illumination" until January 18 of many of Sydney's most famous buildings.

Indeed it was and still is.

Completed in 1932 it is an art deco structure
re the pylons on both sides.

The following just for you emmeka and others who may find (undoubtably) interesting, to say the least :) .

All of the following pics taken in the 1930's (and the last one the 1950s), setting a precedent for Sydney, City of the future:

Sydney's, at the time bomehiam Kings Cross (these days a red lite district with girly nudey bars, prostitutes, female impersonators, strip-tease joints and heroin junkies):

The 1930's; King Cross...

1930's Pitt Street and many of the buildings in this pic are still standing, thanks to heritage issues :D :

http://locofonic.alphalink.com.au/pix2/pitt1.jpg

The construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge ala once again 1930s:

Holy cow! It shure has changed! I always think that when you see construction pics of the bridge you feel stunned because it looks almost impossible!

The monorail is very handy, i use it a lot when im in Sydney. It is also another thing that makes it look futuristic.

Population - 4.2 million (approx)
Loaction - East coast of Australia
Tallest Tower - Sydney Tower - 305 metres.
Palm Beach - location for TV soap series 'Home and Away'

More interesting facts please my friends!.
Take care

Practically no one would agree that Sydney is the best city because it's not a center of finance, culture, media or anything else. However, it does appear to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, as does Melbourne. Also, Aussie birds are :) :) :) !

Great city - wonderful harbor, opera house and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

But most people I meet who travel there say they prefer Brisbane or Melbourne. Sydney seems to suffer from a big hole in its middle - the beautiful harbor. That's ok, but how often do you actually spend on the harbor? I could imagine that looking out the window of your office at the people yachting while you are working would not be much fun.

People rave about Cairns too. Perhaps we should start a topic. Small town of 100,000 with direct flights to Tokyo, Osaka. Jungle and sea. Very interesting place.

My mum grew up in Sydney and my grandfather walked across the Harbour Bridge on the opening day (of the bridge). I myself visited Sydney in 2005, here's a pic from Darling Harbour. Great city, I really mean it; the whole feel of it is magnificent. Although the two most memorable things for me were

a.) Driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge... that thing is MASSIVE.

b.) Driving into the city from the airport area - Sydney Tower just kind of sticks into the air out of nothing, like when you see the Empire State Building from Queens in New York.
