As the Forums at Wired New York near 1000 members, what does this all mean?

How far have we all come? In what directions will we go?

Also now is a good time for any registered member who has not yet posted, to say hi. How ya'll doing?

1000, like... 7 in my members thread. :D

I remember when we hit 100 members. It's kind of weird looking at it now. There was a recent period where we suddenly had a huge influx of registers... anyone remember when that was?

I kind of miss the old software, but things must change.

Wow, that's going back Zippy. That was a good episode.

50 new members in the last month. It seems like every WTC milestone brings a new slew of registers.

TLOZ - I always say "The Land of Oz" when I read your username. Am I close?

And where's Fabb?

I've never heard that one, Knight. Actually, when I was young...er, I really liked The Legend of Zelda video game series, and the acronym kinda stuck with me. I've been using it for about four or five years, and like I said I became used to it, even though I don't really play video games anymore.

The Land Of Oz? That's new, heh.

As of this post, we're three away from having one thousand members.

First of all, I'd like to pre-emptively welcome those three, and second, would anybody be so kind as to compile a short history of Wired New York?

Por todo tiempo...

Something to spoil the festivities - the existing member 'emmeka' was posing as 'radical overemphasis', which does not make him 1000th member. Not very nice, emmeka, lying to our faces.

That makes 'kevdogg' not 1001st but 1000th member! Welcome, kevdogg!

Emmeka is playing with our minds! First he uses an avator of a woman so we think he is actually a "she". Then he creates a second username to confuse us further! Emmeka, do you like confusing us? Because I'm confused :?

2000th member did not generate any excitement. Today we have 3000th member join the forum.

It took 2 years for this forum to reach one thousand members, 1 year - 2000 members and 6 months - 3000 members.

Edward-

You have created one of the best online forums around. It's a great place because everyone respects and defends the rules and, even when we disagree, we keep it courteous.

You're the Mayor oft he best virtual community on the Internet.

Thanks for your efforts and congratulations on the success. (Please don't sell it).

Is a shame a lot of them don't post anything. Maybe there should be a clean up one day and delete members that haven't post for a year. Hehehe... Ok never mind. :p

4,279 members and...
1. ZippyTheChimp
2. Kris
3. lofter1
4. TLOZ Link5
5. Myself

Make 24% of the votes. That statistic is mind-boggling. That translates to .1% of the forum membership makes 24% of posts!

any figures for daily number of hits?
The forum is visited by about 150 registered members every day. This number does not include guests and it does not include visits to the rest of the website. Forum Statistics at the bottom of the main page shows the number of Active Members (registered members that visited forum in the last 30 days) at around 550. Overall, Wired New York has around 10,000 visitors every day.

Most users ever online was 1,731, January 3rd, 2006 at 09:47 PM.

What caused this spike?

"Users online" generally hovers between 200 and 250 with surprising consistency. What accounts for this consistency and who generally are the 200 online who aren't members?

One month after Ablarc's still-unanswered question, and I have another one similar to that.

Going by the stats Edward posted in the newly created Forum FAQ sticky, when did we take on so many new members during 2005? Was there any one event that drove people here (Olympics? Freedom Tower redesign? Orion??), or has it been steadier growth?

I see so far that we're up to almost 4,600 hundred members this year from 3,800, meaning we probably won't end up taking on another 2,000 newcomers like we did last year.

And hopefully within a couple months, I'll finally become a Senior Member whoop-dee-dooo!

312 Guests after midnight? Is this real or is this some kind of automaticity or unintended consequence in a computer program?

Where is our friend Schad? She was a great voice on here and was very good at setting idiots and bigots straight. An anchor for the progressive wing of me, Lofter and Ryan.

And, God bless TLOZ, a prolific poster her was. He still holds the number 11 spot.
