View Full Version : Irritating illness

I've had a cold for a week now which has provided some exciting things. A few days ago I officially pulled out the biggest thing I've ever pulled out of my nose: an object that stretched to the back wall of my neck.
Today and yesterday has been copious amounts of coughing, wearing out my chest and making others nervous. It doesn't help to have this with my SAT being tomorrow.
So... now that my pity party is over, I'd be interested in hearing about your most memorable or most interesting sickness. But not your death; death moves me.

If I remember correctly, the mummification process by ancient Egyptians involved storing internal organs in jars. They didn't know of what use the brain was, so they threw it away, removing it through the nasal passages.
Hopefully, you didn't throw out something you might still need. Double 300's on the SATs, and you'll only have yourself to blame.
I'd be interested in hearing about your most memorable or most interesting sickness.
Since I've been on the planet so much longer than you, it's difficult to choose among many. I'll get back to this, but I will say that I've had extensive experience in this area (mostly accidents). Remember, I (almost) diagnosed Edward's MRI.

Most memorable illness...I caught a stomach flu in February of 2003 and started to feel sick when I got off a plane from Panama City, Florida (I was visiting my grandparents, who own a timeshare or something down there). I was waiting at the gate in Atlanta when I threw up in front of 150-odd people. Quite embarassing, and definitely something I'd wish to forget but can't. :?

I too, have a sensitive stomach.
I similarly puked in front of a whole lot of people, it was on a busy work day.
It was right in front of the PABT though, so I didnt at all feel out of place  Nothing out of the ordinary.

I suppose I came close to what you two did, in the latter case around the same place...
On one of the Midtown threads I did it was only south Midtown with like 5 pictures. I was rushing to get to Midtown before the sun set. Rushed a lot. Started getting cramps at PABT. At W57, I was forced into a Wendy's and its upstairs bathroom, where my body promptly emptied. I stayed there for a long time.
We figured it was a combination of rushing and having had onions. I haven't had onions since. But I have some digestive disorder that gets me achy sometimes, before I started medication I would get attacks that were the most painful things in my life and lasted 1-5 hours. After many tests done (with like 7 vials of blood...), the diagnosis is whatthehellitis.
I also puked into a towel handed to me by a very pretty lifeguard at a Hampton hotel once. A nearly pure white towel, soiled upon my touch. The bright side was that the stay was free; the owner's son had backed into my dad's car the year before in a McDonald's lot somewhere around there and gave us a free night in a suite.

I am NOT a world traveler, but the most interesting happened in Europe.
Late evening, I was walking in Paris near the Louvre which was closed that day. Therefore, nearly every business was closed. I really had to go. Desperately so. It was the first time I was ever grateful to see a McDonald's. I rushed inside, struggled to state my need and was directed to restrooms on the second floor. Discomfort was close to pain. Then I spied the keypad lock. Horrors! A frenchwoman shouted out the number code -- in English (I guess I looked that obvious: an American with an exploding bladder). Afterwards, and feeling almost human, I sat at her table and we met every night I was in Paris. No romance (what is this, the WE channel?) but she was a fascinating person.
(I remind you: I am NOT a world traveler but a hillbilly from West Virginia). Alone this time in Florence. I bite into something and suddenly the world changes. It started as a throb but accelerated to unpleasant pain. Short story: I needed a root canal. Was given biscotti and sweet wine (ala Florentine dunkin' donuts) at the local osteria, a gesture of great kindness. The dentist knew very little English so conversation was hilarious on both our parts. She gave me a painkiller that was heaven. (Why can't we have European drugs? Seriously.)

Gulcrapek, you've related your tale of sickness the day before the SATs but not afterwards. Did you feel okay for the tests, well enough to be confident and alert? No need to answer unless you want to: What are your prospective schools? Anyway, hope this finds you well and "scholarly."

Thanks :D
I was feeling kind of slow for the test, it went ok I think. Prospective schools so far are Pratt Institute and City College.
As for today, I was treated to an illness similar to but milder than my 'attacks' mentioned above. Still have it right now.
