View Full Version : Advice for going to see Yankees

I'm going to NY at the start of July and there are 2 games on while I'm there Detroit and Tampa Bay, I am looking to go to the Detroit game.

I was going to buy some tickets online as I really want to see a ball game, but do you think that tickets will still be available on the day or while I'm there? (Is there a panic for tickets? I don't want it to sell out!)

Also I have read about the Yankee Clipper which takes you to the game is this a worthwhile way of getting to the game, I imagine its quite an experience, any better ways of getting to the game?

Any advice on travelling to the game and ticketing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PS I think you will be hearing a lot from me as I have so many questions about so many things that I want to do during my stay!

:)

Detroit and Tampa Bay don't usually sell out, but it's summertime and the week of Fourth of July - kids are off from school and a vacation week. While there will probably be seats available at the gate on game day, they won't be as good as what's available now.

Tip: If you have a choice between seats at field level in the outfield, and third tier behind home plate, take the seats behind the plate (dark purple on the map). They are high up, but a better view of the game - and the stadium.

The Yankee Clipper is a good choice for sightseeing on the East River. Information at http://www.nywaterway.com/

Thats great cheers, I've noticed the bleachers are really cheap, is the view from these seats really rubbish?

The view from the bleachers isn't too bad. The best part about the bleachers is the atmosphere, i.e. the bleacher creature roll calls and other assorted chants and the clockwork like rumbling of the 4 train behind you.

I'm taking my girlfriend so would you recommend the bleachers or pay that bit extra for some seats in the purple tier seats behind the plate as suggested?

Any tips or things I should know before going to the game?

Thanks for any help

The bleacher seats (especially in right field) are as good as the more expensive outfield box seats.

Safety is not an issue anywhere in the stadium. The "Bronx Zoo" of the 1970s is long gone. The bleachers, and a few other sections, are alcohol-free zones.

I suppose the one negative of the bleachers to a first-time visitor, is that there is no access to the rest of the stadium. If you choose the more expensive seats, get there early for batting practice (gates open 1 1/2 hours prior to gametime). Depending on the crowd situation, you may be allowed to wander near the infield - maybe say hello to a player.

Otherwise, you can still watch a good Leeds United- Manchester :)

I wish, trying to get tickets to those games are like gold dust but as Leeds are playing so rubbish and are probably going to get relegated into the division below then we won't even be able to play them! :(

But your right they are fantastic matches, I have been lucky enough to go to one of those matches and the atmosphere is incredible.

Three friends of mine and I were all coincidentally "sick" yesterday, and decided we might as well go to the Yankee Game. Yankees won 5-2 sweeping the O's for the second time. Miraculously, we all felt great by the end of the game. :)

What are some tips on wearing visiting teams hats at Yankee Satadium?

Will this ruin my experiance of being there?

No, lots of people wear visiting team's hats. You might get heckled a little, but it's all in good fun - I'm sure it wouldn't ruin the experience. However, if it's a Boston hat the heckling would likely be more than just a little, and rightfully so. ;)

Will this ruin my experiance of being there? Unless it's a Boston hat you won't get abused too bad. If you were to wear a Boston hat to Yankee Stadium I don't suggest sitting in the bleachers with that on. Also Yankee Stadium doesn't usually sellout until almost gametime unless it's a series againest the Mets or Red Sox. But lately we've had crowds of over 50,000 and a few over 55,000 so you never know.

Westin -- Times Square Ok reason I asked was because getting to the stadium via the subway is almost always the best way to go.

that's what we're planning. You should be able to walk to Grand Central from their and take the #4 to the stadium.

We are going to catch the US Open as well.
What would be the best way to get there?

We are going to catch the US Open as well.
What would be the best way to get there? Take the #7 subway (Flushing bound) from either Times Square or Grand Central to the Shea Stadium/Willets Point Station. Or take the "E" or "F" trains to Roosevelt Avenue and transfer upstairs to the #7 train (Flushing bound) subway to the Shea Stadium/Willets Point Station. From the station it takes about 3-5 minutes to walk to there.

If you're staying in Times Square and want to go to Yankee Stadium, you could walk to 42nd St and Sixth Avenue and take the B or the D which both stop at Yankee Stadium. Keep in mind that the B does not run on weekends. If you're on the East Side, like a previous poster said, take the 4 train.

I will be at the game Thursday afternoon, wearing my Blue Jays Hat.

I'm travelling from western Canada (Calgary).
I can't see to many people picking on a poor Canadian.;)

I was at the game yesterday - great seats, no Canadians.

I was also there Tuesday night - the seats weren't as good (in Mickey Country with a friend's little league team), two Canadians.
