Hello every one this is my first post in this forum. I recently returned from New York from a 1 week holiday. I am 21, male from the UK , And i gota say i have fallen head over heels in love with NYC. And i am despertly looking for a way for me to get a workpermit or green card, but to my dissapointment i have seen that the US are not giving any green cards to anyone in the UK :( I have actually traveled europe for 6 years and i can only say that i feel more at home in NYC then any were i have lived before (even in my home town.) , so i am curious if anyone knows any other way i could get some kind of work visa or somthing for me to emergrate to NYC??!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know this is mostly for Irish (not sure how you feel about that), but you could give it a try. It is supposed to be very helpful.

Also, you may find some help here (though I have never heard of this before):

Off the top of my head, the legal ways I know of foreigners getting green cards or stay in the US..

1) Employer sponsored work visa/green card. For most cases, it takes several years to get to green card status. I think for highly desired employees, there's a quicker RIR green card process.

2) Green card based on extraordinary ability. I know an artist in Brooklyn who got this. But you have to be really special (the above artist I know had Fortune 500 clients), or have some talent that's in demand (a few years ago, I heard sushi chefs could get in no problem).

3) Marry an American citizen. I think you get your green card after 2 years.

4) Lottery. I think every year, foreigners can apply for a lottery process to get green cards. If I remember correctly, every year 8 million people apply, and 50,000 get lottery green cards.

5) Go to school on student visa. A very common way to legally immigrate to the US is to go to college in the US on a student visa. After graduation, I think people get another free year of job searching (practical training?). Hopefully, they get a job by then, and go through the work visa/green card process (see #1 above).

You might be able to find more information here:

Good luck.

Unless you can get another work visa sponsored job lined up pretty quickly.

If you know 3 languages and are good with computers, look for a job.

Check out all the boards and see what you can find. There is always a need for techies.
