Now this could use a 450ft ferris wheel! Will be a pretty nice development overall for the area... in addition to the ferry/SI Yankee waterfront area.

City Sets Aside $66 Million for S.I. Development
By JENNIFER STEINHAUER
The Navy home port in Stapleton, on Staten Island, is one of the many corners of the city where government promises of development are planted like tulip bulbs each season but fail to bloom.
The city gained ownership of the site, which looms south of the St. George Ferry Terminal, after the closing of the naval base there in 1995.
Speculators drove real estate prices up, and the recession smacked them back down, shuttering businesses along the way. Rezoning initiatives came and went. And, most recently, a film studio development project backed by the Giuliani administration was ended by the Bloomberg administration after it was deemed economically unfeasible and one of the principals was found to have once pleaded guilty to fraud.
Yesterday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that the city had earmarked $66 million to develop the site - for real this time, he said - and that by 2009 or so, a vibrant community would finally rise on the waterfront site.
After a task force studied the area for a year, the city's Economic Development Corporation issued requests for proposals for engineering and landscape design services to transform the home port into a development with residential buildings, stores and restaurants.
The plans - which Mr. Bloomberg announced on the pier at the home port, with city flags whipping in the wind behind him - include a sports complex, a banquet hall, a restaurant and a farmers' market.
The project will include a restoration of Tappen Park, Mr. Bloomberg said, and open space will make up almost half the 36-acre site.
Since the naval base closed, Staten Islanders entered into a decadelong debate envisioning "new housing, open space and new jobs," Mr. Bloomberg said. "And until now, that grand promise has largely gone untapped. But today after a decade of false starts, I'm excited to unveil a final plan to turn Homeport into an economic and recreation jewel for all of Staten Island and in fact for all of the city."

I own three story building on 580 Bay Street. Is this new proposal will effect my property somehow?
Thanks.
