For security reasons, the cul de sac First Pl was never opened. After completion of the museum wing, the street was demapped, and the Olin Partnership designed a pedestrian connection to the esplanade.

Great photos...When I made my trip to NYC in May we stayed at the Ritz in Battery Park for 3 days...It was great to just walk up and down the esplanade..Its truely a beautiful place and my favorite part of the city! (that I have visited so far :) )

Nice as always. I've never seen that series of terraces etc. Must be in the wrong place every time.

"Eyes" looks more like "Breasts in January" to me...

The reclad garage is coming along. This is to be used for cultural space now, right? Is it all for this new use, or a mix, with parking (probably the latter)?

As far as I know, the garage will remain a parking facility. There is a plan to reconfigure traffic and maybe deck over part of the tunnel entrance for park space, but I've heard nothing since the LMDC planning study 2 years ago.

I wonder what treatment the original, and better designed, original garage building will get?

Battery Park really is one of the coolest parts of the city, probably one of the most successful renewal projects in the country.

And that South Cove place is awesome after dark. When I was there last week, a friend and I went down there around midnight to smoke, and the blue lights were beyond trippy.

I love Battery Park City! How much does it cost to live there, though, and hows it doing post 9/11?

Great pics!!!

Not really sure. It is not cheap, but it's not the most expensice place in Manhattan either.

The area boomed after 9-11 as the rents/prices dropped a bit, a load of gov't incentives were given to people that move/stay there (and lower manhattan) and b/c lower manhattan in general is becoming more of a typcial 24/7 "real" NYC neighborhood (and not just offices).

BPC is really an amazing place. I used to love working around there.

BPC is nice and I love the parks but it lacks more connection to the rest of downtown. The residential areas that are close to midtown have a better connection around it. It feels like there is no difference of offices and apartment buildings once you start to look very closely in and around midtown.

Hopefully the new world trade center development will bring it all together somehow. The old world trade center wasn't very street friendly IMO.

That's why, yes it's a lot of money and yes there is a lot to work on down there, but I think the tunnel/esplanade is a good idea. Not just by the WTC, but from the WTC to the Battery. This won't happen, but it's a good idea. Look at Boston and it's "Big Dig."

Excellent photos, Asg. Some interesting ice formations there, like giant water lily pads, but white and no flowers.
