I think theres been an increase in earth quakes and hurricanes lately....

I heard something on the news that some people are talking about that too....

But scientists say, these thinkgs have happened before - they'll happen again.....

But the has been a bit of an increase in weather and nature disturbances.

I don't think it's so much an increase in storms and the like as it is an increase in the number of storms and the like that are actually recorded. There have never been so many settled areas of the world as there are now, meaning more witnesses to geological and meteorological activity. To me, this is more of a "tree-falling-in-the-woods" scenario than it is a "sky-is-falling" scenario.

Editorial
Trash Talking World War III

The New York Times
October 29, 2007

America’s allies and increasingly the American public are playing a ghoulish guessing game: Will President Bush manage to leave office without starting a war with Iran? Mr. Bush is eagerly feeding those anxieties. This month he raised the threat of “World War III” if Iran even figures out how to make a nuclear weapon.

With a different White House, we might dismiss this as posturing — or bank on sanity to carry the day, or the warnings of exhausted generals or a defense secretary more rational than his predecessor. Not this crowd.

Four years after his pointless invasion of Iraq, President Bush still confuses bullying with grand strategy. He refuses to do the hard work of diplomacy — or even acknowledge the disastrous costs of his actions. The Republican presidential candidates have apparently decided that the real commander in chief test is to see who can out-trash talk the White House on Iran.

The world should not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon, but there is no easy fix here, no daring surgical strike. Consider Natanz, the underground site where Iran is defying the Security Council by spinning a few thousand centrifuges to produce nuclear fuel. American bombers could take it out, but what about the even more sophisticated centrifuges the administration accuses Iran of hiding? Beyond the disastrous diplomatic and economic costs, a bombing campaign is unlikely to set back Iran’s efforts for more than a few years.

The neocons pushing an attack on Iran admit that a prolonged bombing campaign would be necessary and would likely only delay Iran’s program. But it is still worth it, they say, and if everybody gets lucky maybe the attacks will unleash that popular uprising against the mullahs they’ve been promising for years.

That is the same kind of rose-petal thinking that was used to sell Americans a fantasy about the invasion of Iraq. Large numbers of Iranians are fed up with their government’s corruption and repression and with being branded a pariah state. Rain down American bombs, however, and the mullahs and Iran’s Holocaust-denying president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, are more likely to be turned into national heroes than hung from lampposts. And that’s not even calculating the international fury or the additional mayhem Tehran could wreak in Iraq or what would happen to world oil prices.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is the other great hope (after Defense Secretary Robert Gates) for holding off a war. She still wants to give sanctions and diplomacy a chance. But, as with everything else she does, there’s nowhere near enough follow-through. If the stakes are really that high — and they are — then Ms. Rice and her boss must tell Moscow, Beijing and the Europeans that relations will be judged on whether they are willing to place a lot more pressure on Iran.

They also need to offer Iran a credible way back in from the cold — and clear rewards and security guarantees if it is willing to give up its nuclear ambitions. If it’s really that important — and we believe it is — then it’s time to send somebody higher ranking than the American ambassador in Baghdad to deliver the message.

For this to have any chance, Mr. Bush will have to tone down the rhetoric. Sure, a lot of these countries are letting greed cloud their judgment, when they balk at restricting trade with Iran. But it’s a lot easier to justify when they say they’re not giving the crazy American government an excuse for another war.

Maybe the country will get lucky and Mr. Bush will listen to the exhausted generals. But this isn’t just about surviving the rest of his presidency. Fifteen more months of diplomatic drift will bring Iran 15 months closer to figuring out how to make a nuclear weapon.

Aha, aha. USA vs Iran.

It is predictable direction. :)
Military complex need money. Too many of weapon was collected in period of Cold War.
But where is the enemy now??? :D
Hmm... let me think...
All you need is just crush two biggest towers in New York and create new enemy for yourself for new payments in military complex. Huh!
But nation understand too fast: war against terrorism is just occasion to make new money and oil for military complex.
Then neocons trying to scare people: prepare to nuclear war, or let we bomb Iran as well, as it was in Iraq... aha... too similar.
Play with common ignorance by control of media sources... ouch!
Awful! Just bullsh.t! Everything!
Methods of dictators in the heart of Democratic world! In America!

It takes a long time to meet the end of the world. The nature we treat badly, is accelerating the speed of destruction. That`s all.

But seriously, we who`s living on the same earth, should do something.

As all people are at liberty, it`s hard to change others. So we should be self-controlled, and treat nature nicely.

Police: Man hit, killed on I-45 tried to run over girlfriend

By LINDSAY WISE
Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

A man who tried to run over his girlfriend during a Valentine's Day argument was struck and killed by oncoming traffic in north Harris County as he ran from deputies across Interstate 45 late Thursday, authorities said.

The man was identified by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office today as Mundo Lara, 25. Lara is believed to have lived in Houston but investigators for the medical examiner's office had not determined exactly where he lived or how long he has lived in the area, spokesman said.
Lara was being chased after he used a vehicle to try to run down his girlfriend at an apartment complex in the 15300 block of Ella Boulevard, deputies said.

Precinct 4 Constable deputies had just set up a perimeter on the southbound side of I-45 near Richey Road about 9:30 p.m. when one of the officers saw the man running across the freeway, authorities said.
The man made it across and deputies moved to the northbound side of the freeway. A cleaning woman at a nearby car dealership saw the man hiding behind cars in the lot.

"As soon as he saw all the deputies coming, he started running back across the freeway and obviously did not make it," Harris County Sheriff's Department Sgt. S. Wolverton said.

A white Suburban hit the man first. The impact flung his sneakers off and threw him about 100 feet before he was struck a second time by a gray sports car.

All southbound lanes of I-45 were closed at the accident site and deputies were diverting traffic to the feeder road late Thursday and early today as investigators collected evidence and awaited the medical examiner's office to collect the man's body, which lay twisted on the pavement near the median barrier.

The accident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Traffic Enforcement Section.

Steer's spots a walking Michigan ad

A Saginaw County rancher's steer is a full-blooded Michigander, and has the marks on its hide to prove it.
One of the 30 head of cattle on the Spaulding Township farm of Jacob D. and Georgia B. Kessler has distinctive patterns on each of its sides.
One side features the Michigan mitten; the other a U.

David A. Sommers | The Saginaw NewsThis year-and-a-half old Simmental steer with markings that look like the Michigan mitten belongs to Jacob Kessler, 67, of Spaulding Township.

The cattle farm, family-run since 1929, is a hobby for Kessler, who is owner/president of Kessler Environmental Excavating, 5180 Mower. All the cattle on the farm are bred and born on the premises and are sold for beef once mature. Some already are scheduled for the slaughterhouse in late March.

The Kesslers are willing to spare this particular 1-year-old bovine -- they named it Michigan -- a fate on a plate.
Anyone who would like to buy the steer for promotional or mascot use may call Kessler Environmental Excavating at 777-3269. The price is negotiable.

Kitten Found After 25 Days in NYC SubwayFeb 17, 6:57 AM (ET)

NEW YORK (AP) - A skittish kitten that scampered out of its carrier on a subway platform has been found after 25 days in the underground tunnels.

Transit workers tracked down 6-month old Georgia under midtown Manhattan Saturday. Police reunited her with owner Ashley Phillips, a 24-year-old Bronx librarian.
After hearing that the black cat might have been spotted below Lexington Avenue and East 55th Street, track workers Mark Dalessio and Efrain LaPorte went through the area making "meow" sounds.
Georgia responded, and they found her cowering in a drain between two tracks. Georgia had lost some weight and scratched her nose but was otherwise unhurt. She had disappeared while Phillips was bringing her home from a veterinarian visit last month.
