Suggestions:

I notice you have a lot of direct links to stories and forum posts on the front page, but you have it in an:

Item, Item, Item

format. Is it possible to make the individual items more easily differentiated from each other (such as a bulleted list, maybe newspaper style in multiple columns) or as a scrollable menu/submenu kind of system on the side of the page?

Also, I looked around a bit, but I did not see any links to any other sites that participate in similar discourse about NYC and the like.

Would it be something that people here would appreciate if there were links to places like www.curbed.com and the like?

the site is very nice, but it seems like you are just starting to go from a private BBS/Blog kind of thing to a more public, advertised (or advertisement) site and it may be good to develop some networking with other sites that share the same kind of fanbase....

Thanks for the input.

I might try the bulleted list of items on the front page, similar to bulleted list of buildings on the Real Estate (http://www.wirednewyork.com/real_estate/) section.

And I actually have a link to curbed, it's on the Real Estate Links (http://www.wirednewyork.com/real_estate/links.htm) page.

OK, I was just looking on the home page.

Curbed links back to you as well on the main, but they link to everyone from you to the Yellow Pages practically, so it is hard to see who is who.....

Have fun with the format and development here!
