The eruption of Santorini in Greece in 1,650 B.C. was one of the largest in the last 10,000 years. The most recent eruption at Santorini was in 1950 on Nea Kameni, the northern island. Front view - Nea Kameni with Santorini in the background.

great pics, thank you Edward ! I am very excited by these pictures since I will be on Santorini from Aug 21-24. Was picture 1 taken from the village of Thira or Ia ? I booked accommodations in Ia and I hope the setting is as stunning as the Andromeda Villas appears to be. Do you have any "don't miss" tips or
favorite place you ate? thanks again

upper picture was taken in Thira, second picture taken in the harbor. Oia not visible in either pic but you will like it a lot. Less crowded than Thira, great sunsets from there too.
