View Full Version : Just one of things...

You know, I go to the same place for breakfast during the work week, day after day. I order the same thing for breakfast, a buttered everything bagel, day after day. And, I always get to my office and they NEVER cut all the way through the bagel. I am left trying to tear a buttery, dripping bagel in half. It leaves me greased for the morning and gets my desk and computer lubricated in a way I don't appreciate. So, I then have to spray and wipe everything down.
It's just one of those things...

Um, the reason they do that is because if they did, they would cut the wrapper they are putting your bagel in and it would drip all over you as you were carrying it.
They do the same thing with hero sandwiches......

^They could cut it and THEN put it on the wrapper, I hear ya BrooklynRider.
This one guy in the corner store that I go to near my apt. is too wary about putting my items in a strong enough bag. The other workers there have no problem with using a bag that is strong enough, but not this guy, those strong bags are not to be wasted! No matter what I buy, it seems the bag handles are always straining to the limit and I wind up carrying it from the bottom. Oh yes, I've asked for a stronger bag again and again, but must I? It's just one of those things...

I agree, BUT.....
the thing is, thy make the bagel, and the hero, on the paper because it takes less work to clean up afterwards. they do not have to keep wiping up the countertop after each one.
It is not the best solution, but it is the most efficient. Also, with things liek Heroes, it is hard to get a fully loaded one up on the paper after you have cut it. They have a tendancy to fall apart rather easily.
Oh, one final thing. Some times they are not cut fully just because it takes more time to do so. If you have ever chopped scallions or celery you will know what I am talking about. You can do it quickly, but you are more likely to have a bunch of scallion rings all connected at one point. If you take the time to do it, you will take MORE time........
So whatever. It is a pet peeve. I hope that is the most of your worries in life... ;)

Get with the program: use cream cheese.http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif
I know, I know, butter is good with a bagel too. My mom likes butter on her bagels. She always asks for "butter on the side" when she orders a bagel at Hot & Crusty or Zaro's or one of those places. They usually give it to her. Maybe try asking for it at your deli sometime. Otherwise, just order a bagel cut in half and keep a stick of butter in your office. By the way, I don't know if you intended it, but your post "sounded" very sad.http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif

Nothing worse than getting your desk all greasy and your keyboard... fugetaboutit.I feel your pain... but on the other hand, man what I wouldnt give for a real NY bagel. I have to resort to bagels in the freezer section called Lenders and there is no comparison, believe me. I would just ask for an plain, unbuttered bagel and buy some cream cheese singles for your desk. Butter is always gonna be greasy... But in the words of Homer Simpson..."mmmm butter".

My neighborhood has a great bakery that I go to several times a week. It has two sales clerks. My heart always sinks when I see the one who goes to pains to select the smallest of everything --roll, pastry, loaf of bread. Her mother must have taught her to always save the best till last (that way the bakery will always have the best, even when it's old and dry).
The other sales clerk always selects the biggest and best of everything to give to her customers. They all leave gratified that they have been treated like kings and have received the best.
And the store? Well, they're left with the best too; there's always a best in every selection, right until you're down to the last one.
That could be a parable for how to live a successful life.
