Krulltime, cute doggy - she looks a little like Santa's Little Helper.

I no longer have any pets, unfortunately. I'd have to leave them alone too much. I miss having them terribly - dogs in particular.

Beautiful kitty named Scottie. He's white with big orange blotches, a tabby tail, and a kind of lionish forehead. I wuv my Scottie. Unfortunately he has renal failure that has sort of stabilized so I'm cherishing him now as much as I can. I have 1020493985345 pics, I'll post one sometime.

MK, I have been meaning to tell you that this is one of the best-groomed group of cats I have seen in a long time. The litmus test: All the ears are clean!

Also, all the fur coats are smooth and shiny, and there are no loose hairs on the coats. Their colors are vivid, and the whites are snow white. Their faces are clean and their whiskers gleam. Cats are not naturally this put-together; somebody puts a lot of extra time in grooming these pets.:)

Cheers to the human that gets to live with that handsome pride of cats above.
You see, 4 years ago my cat died. He was a beautiful Siamese, and his life was cut short at the age of 7 by a neurological disease that manifested gradually over the course of a year. It was a painful experience to watch his condition deteriorate after the vet and I tried everything, and then following the advice to put him to sleep. I wil never stop feeling pain when I think of that procedure. I raised him from the day he was weaned, so the bond we had developed was very strong. Siamese tend to develop a dog-like attachment to their owners; Nepal followed me all around the apartment...wherever the people were, he had to be right in the middle of the circle. What a cat he was. I miss him so much.
Sorry for the downer post. I needed to express that.

ManhattanKnight

MG, to me, the human who lived with that pile of cats, that was no "downer" -- Siamese are extraordinary beings. The sealpoint Siamese in that photo was Prince, who died 4 years ago, at age 22. I spotted him one day in a litter of kittens in Macy's (Herald Square) pet department (yes, there once was one) and took him home that same day. In the photo, his head is resting atop that of Isaac, a Philadelphia cat I adopted after he became Prince's kidney donor a couple of years before his death. Later, Isaac was joined by Twi, a sealpoint kitten also from Philadelphia and, somewhat to my vet's consternation (they're both male cats), suckled Twi during most of the first year of his life.

Prince at age 21:

Twi at about 10 months:

I've got to get a cat.

I returned home yesterday to find animal droppings all over the place. And I don't have a pet.

I immediately called my gardener guy, he examined them and says that they're probably from a badger... or, listen to this.... maybe a swamp rat. Something like that.

I had left the door to the garden open, some food on the counter and the rat or whatever it is, came in, helped himself, crapped and left.

I checked to see if any money was missing (I swear).

I quess I was a little hysterical.

I was so freaked out I even asked the gardener guy if he'd spend the night...

(No luck.)

Anyway, it seems like the best way to keep these beasts at bay is to have a cat.

There's a market that fills the town streets on Saturday. The local animal shelter comes in with stray cats&dogs and gives them away..... so I quess on Saturday I'm getting a cat.

It's so sad. I never thought I'd wind up this way. 50 years old and living with a cat.

If could be worse.

You could be living with _____________  (fill in the blank).

Get yourself in indoor / outdoor cat -- one with lots of independence.

Figure out a way to put in a pet door (but not big enough for the swamp rat thing  to drop in) so your new helper can come and go.

And be sure to have it neutered (eventually) if you don't want it to take off for days on end.

Fabrizio
May 29th, 2007, 07:49 PM
I'm in the center of town so the garden is completely walled making it harder for the cat to escape... at least while it's young. (I really don't feel like modifying handcrafted louvered doors to accomodate a cat.)

When it gets older I could always eat it or have it made into a bag.

MidtownGuy
May 30th, 2007, 06:20 PM
selling!! really, dear friend, perhaps that's a bit of an over reaction?:)
find a nice cat and the problem will be quickly solved. He/she will patrol the territory with great zeal. And you will, despite yourself, become fond of him/her if you choose the right one to bring home. When I lived in Brooklyn on the ground floor, a mouse must have entered the place one night, because my cat began a vigil at a certain place where he detected something. I swear he didn't move from that spot all night, just patiently waiting like a statue. In the morning, the mouse was dead.
They're incredibly efficient, and loveable too:)
Keep that beautiful Tuscan villa! I'm coming to see that hubcap collection one day.

And be sure to have it neutered (eventually) if you don't want it to take off for days on end.
I second this.:)

Another reason for neutering a male cat is the repugnant "cat spray" -- they spray it everywhere to mark their territory and attract female cats.

If Sergio is 4 months old or greater, he can be neutered right now. Early neutering is not cruel; the anesthesia techniques have been technologically purrfected and the cat doesn't know what really happened.

Early neutering keeps the cat from developing "undesireable habits" and perhaps continuing them after being neutered.

I can't tell! My long-time friend always owns at least two red boxers, and they aren't particularly into digging. (I should ask her if she trained it out of them.)

Boxers have faces that make them look like they're tough dogs, but my friend's are gentle and mild-tempered. Her Boxers befriend everyone and wouldn't make good guard dogs. What is Raven like?

I love cats! If I weren't so busy I'd adopt one from the ASPCA. Unfortunately, It would be there all alone all day and I just can't do that to it.

Edit: I was thinking, I could call a shelter that is about to put an older cat down and adopt it. An older cat would probably not require as much attention as a kitten or a young cat. Anyone have an opinion on this?

First of all, be sure that you're not allergic. If you're not absolutely sure, have a friend's cat stay at your place for a few days, or "cat sit" while your friend is on vacation.

If you're not allergic, repost your question here and I'll answer it extensively:

KC appear to have Havana Brown in him

Yes, and those brown patches have spread as he's aged. Back when he was a kitten, there was no noticeable brown on him anywhere. Now he didn't become an outdoors cat until he was maybe four or five years old, so I wonder is this color changing a function of aging or perhaps comes from exposure to the elements?

Keep KC outside in the sun long enough and he may morph into a pedigree::D

^ What a stupid expression.

I started out kind of indifferent to cats, but the badger/swamp-rat thing sold me on getting one.

But after scrolling through these pictures I'm now slowly starting to hate them.

I'm thinking of putting down rat poison and calling it a day.

Oh and BTW... is it true that 9 out of 10 cat owners are lesbians? There's that too.

Pet cats that are not at all cutsie-looking, but rather have a wild jungle look, here:

We are a bird club in the NYC area with an interest in the rights of birds -- the right not to be sold, the right to be free, the right to be treated properly in captivity. We hold education events each month and nature and bird walks.

If you would like to help us in our mission, please contact us.

He's a pure bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

It is a breed that was bred in this part of the country (England) and named for the County of Staffordshire.

The first Champion was bred less than a mile from where I live.
