Why are you who you are? How'd you come up with that name?

BigMac
September 15th, 2005, 11:01 PM
"Big Mac" is a college nickname that derives from my last name, which is Irish.

It's only a coincidence that I also have a soft spot for McDonald's. ;)

stache
September 16th, 2005, 12:11 AM
stache is for my old moustache, which at this point is buzzed almost to oblivion.

Mine is a tribute to my favorite American rock 'n' roll band - The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Comelade
September 16th, 2005, 06:26 AM
Comelade is a French musician, who was the first to make a concert with an orchestra where all the instruments were toys.

My name is a leftover from college. I was in a sorority and my pledge name was "Winney the Pooh". It was spelled with an -ey because everyone in my family tree had a name that ended in a -ey. The 7 was my line #. Cheesy, I know, since I graduated college in 1998, but it is just habit now I guess to use it...........

I would be glad to discuss it over drinks.

Ryan, if it's not too personal, are you male or female? I had a female friend named Ryan and I've never heard of another.

My handle is a play on schadenfreude.

Mine is from a favorite movie when I was a child called KRULL (1983) and I added time. :)

What about you BrooklynRider?

BrooklynRider
September 16th, 2005, 01:28 PM
The first forum I ever belonged to was a roller coaster forum. I was a BrooklynRider. As I started joining other forums, I found it was easier to remember one name instead of making up new ones at each one. So, this username has followed me around for about 6 years now. I was more passionate about it in the past, this year the only coaster I rode was the Cyclone.

Brooklyn, I always pictured you on a harley... or maybe horseback.

Schadenfrau - I am the male kind of Ryan, though I've never had anyone ask just from my name or something I've written (I've also met a female Ryan, but I'm willing to bet it wasn't the same one). I must have written something awfully smart to raise the question. That or some questionable pronouns...

TLOZ Link5
September 16th, 2005, 01:42 PM
Oooh, this is embarassing.

My name is a throwback from my days as, well, a video game freak, like in '97 or so. TLOZ stands for "The Legend Of Zelda," and Link of course is the hero of the series. So there.

ryan
September 16th, 2005, 01:58 PM
TLOZ, I don't think that's embarassing at all. Zelda is awesome. I'm no freak, but I live with one, so I could play every Zelda game on it's original console in the comfort of my own home. If I wanted to.

ZippyTheChimp
September 16th, 2005, 01:59 PM
ZippyTheChimp predates forums by decades.

I adopted the name during a dispute with management at AT&T concerning how I interfaced with customers. I resisted a policy of fabricating information when advising customers of progress on service outages. My reasoning was: "Instead of utilizing my experience and skill, you could have a mindless chimp do it."

ZippyTheChimp became well known among several Wall St communications departments.

The nickname stayed in the cage until I was told by a woman at a local bar, "You're an animal, and need to evolve." The comment was not made out of hostility, more a joke. I turned to the bartender, "Michael, please tell the lady my name."

"Ma'am, you're speaking to ZippyTheChimp."

Yours and TLOZ were two I was especially curous about. Wonder if
NYGuy or Normaldude will divulge?

Gab
September 16th, 2005, 03:11 PM
I chose Gab, because where I'm from people call me Gab, my real name is Gabriel. If you just speak English with me you can call me Gabe or what ever you want.

fioco
September 16th, 2005, 07:22 PM
fioco — an Italian word, often used to describe a faint light that can be discerned even in fog and darkness. Whether we abide in crystal clarity, ponder uncertainty, confront confusion with foggy vision or are confounded by darkness, the light of truth can illumine our way.

I use fioco as a metaphor for my spiritual quest. I am a Roman Catholic not limited by the confines some try to place upon us. I'm sometimes too open-minded (and too outspoken) for my own good, but my quest continues through interesting, even forbidden, territories to a better understanding of love, passion, and its truest fruit: compassion.

Un luce fioco

Thanks for the laugh Zippy, that was hilarious. By the way, another big win for the Yankees tonight

I coulda sworn there was a thread like this already, must be my brain continuing its meltdown.

Gul = Cardassian equivalent of "captain" on Star Trek: TNG, DS9, and Voyager. Evek = famous gul. Crapek = dumb take on Evek.

I was the only Swede on SSP when I joined therer 5 n' a bit years ago. I use it on almost all on-line forums so as not to overload my memory.

Gregory Tenenbaum
September 24th, 2005, 06:21 PM
Hello everyone, it's time to introduce myself.

I'm Gregory. Gregory Tenenbaum.

I have joined this forum because gathering from the names and people here, and the posts, it's a cool place to be.

I live in a midtown Y. It's close to everything midtown.

You can be my friend if you like Badminton. It's my passion. And what a game it is. What other game can you run the equivalent of 5 miles without leaving the court? And no problems with epicondylitis like "T*****". Hmpp, what is that anyway? I think its a game for peeps who like fluffy balls. Friends don't let friends play T*****. Unless their other friend is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and they love having operations on their knees, arms, etc etc. Enough said. Myself, I prefer feathers on my 'cock. Who doesn't, right?

I like your names everyone, but today, something happened. I got a pm from another member with a smiley face. What is that for? I understood what you said, there's NO NEED to PUT A FRIKKIN MONSTROSITY of a CARTOON in your MESSAGE.

I do like cartoons, Captain Caveman and Scooby Doo are my favourites, uh, were my favourites like 30 years ago. But I still prefer watching Kate Jackson in a lemon blouse in Charlies Angels.

So, any really "Bad" Badminton players out there? Who have a 'Blad? That way, we could have "Bad with Blad" days out, oh yeah. The Blad outing this morning was way cool, thanks everyone.

In 1962, my Dad bought our family the first Air Conditioner and it was very hot outside and I went inside to cool off.

I went up to the A/C and put it on Super Cool and I stood there all sweaty and said, "I am one Supercool Dude!"! LOL!

^ The wikipedia entries are very cool, supercool dude.

Lofter is a tag I gave myself when I found myself in Housing Court battling the owner of my building; I was researching / surfing for info regarding the nefarious New York "Loft Law" (a great old SoHo building that I moved into 25+ years ago -- well worth the fight). The "1" got added when my PC crashed and I had to re-register on a number of sites.

Supercool Dude (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Supercool_Dude&action=edit) is a single 50 year old Italian-American heterosexual man

I don't know why you have to flaunt your sexuality like that.

Supercool Dude
September 29th, 2005, 04:11 AM
Ryan, you've never heard of Ryan Starr? LOL!

I put the Heterosexual thing in there, cause I got fan mail from openly Gay men and I wanted them to know they were wasting time on a man like me.

L&O, lighten up. the lawmakers who passed all these anti Cannabis laws are drunken hypocrites and phonies.

I hope Tom De Lay and the rest of these traitors get justice.

In case you have not realised it yet, but they can confiscate your property, and jail you without a fair trial, since that creep Reagan became president.

The US Constitution is a dead document to me.

My username honors my great grand uncle, Englebert. During his time in the army, he was reprimanded for failing for follow the proper chain of command. As a consequence, he was thrown in the brig with a 4 lb piece of ham.

Dagrecco82

The painter El Greco has always been my favorite artist, but we all know that getting the actual screenname you want is difficult. So i figured that El means THE in spanish, but that was taken too.(of, course) So I might as well try to spell it phonetically, or at least come close to it. EL GRECO became DaGrecco and the 82 is my birth year.

Hi all! As my first post, it's a good idea to explain my username. It is from a character in one of my favorite books, The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov.

I'm curious for ablarc's explanation. And kznyc2.

kz1000ps
December 22nd, 2006, 01:31 PM
Heh, I'll try to keep it short.

"kz" comes from my old AOL screenname which was "kz1000ps." What the heck's that, you ask? Well, 10 years ago when I created it I was watching a lot of the old TV show "CHiPs," and I loved their motorcycles so much (I'm a car/bike nut) that I used their name -- Kawasaki Z1000 Police Specials.

Anyway, kz became my online nickname of sorts, and when I joined this site, for some reason I didn't think kz1000ps would be appropriate, so I dropped the extra stuff and put up "-nyc2k." Looking back, I'm not sure why I did it, and I wish I could change it back to "kz1000ps" or perhaps "Just call me KZ" as a pun on what I usually end up telling people. I always feel bad for the people who have to write out my name in a post!

Bob
January 25th, 2007, 08:42 PM
"Bob" is in fact the real name. It is only a coincidence that my sense of humor is as devolved as the "Bob" character used by the Church of the Subgenius.

JCMAN320
January 26th, 2007, 07:50 PM
Well the JC is obviously for my first love Jersey City and man well because my friends joke about how much I know and love the city and want the best and I tend to not stand for injustice they said I'm like the superman for Jersey City and 320 is for the address of the street I live on.

So you get JCMAN320 and that explains why I'm Jersey City's freedom fighter.

my room is the master bedroom and i have my own bathroom. i smoke and listen to music in there and blast the music so when my friends or my girlfriend calls me i yell on the phone and say "IM IN THE CLUB!" and they're like "WHAT CLUB??" and i'll say "CLUB BR!" and they would say "WHERES THAT?" and i'd say "MY BATHROOM"
clubBR= club BathRoom

Omega = One of my many nicknames. NYC = Well, this is a NYC forum. Duh! :p

Fabrizio
January 27th, 2007, 05:31 PM
Fabrizio is pronounced:

Fab - Ritz - ee - oh

with the emphasis on "Ritz".

"ee - oh" is how you pronounce the Italian word for "me".

The "Fab" part needs no explaination.

it's actually represents(believe it or not)number of poles that wtc was built on.each one.
it has another meaning too...and each one is on some way connected to wtc.

Why are you who you are? How'd you come up with that name?

eddhead
March 7th, 2007, 01:16 PM
My nickname dates back to times of yore when i was a rather frequent abuser of recreational pharmacuticals as well as smokier substances of mind-abuse.

Preface, my name is Edward
One of my first sem-adult nicknames was 'headly'
it than morphed to 'ed the head' ...
...and later christened myself 'eddahead' which begat the shortened 'eddhead'

Joelio
March 29th, 2007, 06:38 PM
My friend Max was once reading the Deltora Quest series by Emily Rodda. In the story there a creatures called Ols, weird things that take the form of anything. One character in the book sings the following lines about Ols:

Do I spy an Ol-io? Ol-io?
Fuzzy, wuzzy, Ol-io, Ol-io?
You don't bother me!

Once when I was arriving at Max's house, upon knocking on the door he ran down the hall screaming "Do I spy a Joelio?? Joelio?" And then slammed himself into the door before opening it and holding out his hand for me to shake (even though I already knew him).

So ever since then I have called myself Joelio! :D

Pretty simple there [in reference to the person above me].

Mine is pretty obvious also but for some it might not be. I'm a big N.Y. Dragons fan. They're a team in the Arena Football League.
