1) New York
2) Barcelona
3) London

Great pictures! Barcelona is still high on my "to go"-list, only problem is that this isn't a very short list...

Great pics, I was in Barcelona last year and while I liked it I much prefered Madrid. Madrid, while not as pretty has much more soul and I found the people a lot more friendly.

What annoyed me was I was trying my best with what little Spanish I have and in Barcelona they speak Catalan so I got the cold shoulder a couple of times, in the end I just stuck with English.

I used to live in Malaga and I've wanted to go to Barcelona my entire life...It looks like the coolest city in the world!

That's odd, I would imagine barcelona as being quite friendly, Spanish people on a whole are pretty friendly though, but as you get closer to France like Barcelona there may be some of that anti-americanism there. My brother lived in Barcelona for a year and he loved it, I guess it just depends on who you run into there.

Because it increases in proportion to one's distance from Paris...what?

I'm going to Barcelona for my 30th birthday and can't wait. If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them.

I had a friend who traveled around France and she said the country was not perticularly nice to Americans, and BCN is right near the border.

I'm really not so worried about being treated well as an American.

TLOZ, I've got a good idea of what I'd like to see, but if you know of anywhere great to eat or drink, I'd love to hear about it. The sights I can pick on my own, but I love to hear restaurant and bar suggestions. The guidebooks are so frequently inaccurate in that aspect.

These are some great photos. I'm looking forward to a trip through Spain this year, so I was poking around and found this thread.
Barcelona is the city I've wanted to experience for so long. I was also planning on stopping in Sitges and Ibiza before seeing Sevilla, Cordoba, and then up to Madrid. Has anyone been to Sitges? Is it worth the time or should we go straight to Ibiza for the party and sun?

1. Nations do not have attitudes.
2. Even if they did, they would not emanate in increasing proportion due to border proximity.

You're absolutely right, but you can definitely sense a difference in the politics from country to country, and that can affect how Americans are treated. Everywhere I've been, people are upset about the USA and Americans' perceived failure to do anything to rein in what they see as a blatantly corrupt regime.
They accuse, "You voted for them a second time."
Here, we continue to debate whether our policies suck because the domestic media isn't doing it's job to plainspeak the truth to us. It was never really done, but after 2001 the media became a joke here. In other countries, they've been getting more of the story all along, and by now are convinced of our recklessness. Tourists can feel it. Of course, it depends on personal appearance and attitude, and you can also do a lot to soften people's attitudes if you just talk to them, and explain the difference between you, and your present government.
That said, while in the Mediterranean last year, I watched amusedly at the sour looks a group from Texas recieved all through their meal, and the poor service they had. If one of them had refrained from wearing a giant cowboy hat it might have smoothed their way a little, but instead they wanted to flaunt a giant "F_ck You". They got just the treatment they deserved and asked for. Another example, while in Mykonos, I overheard a clueless American asking the store operator, "Do you take dollars?" The storekeeper laughed at him and told him where the ATM was. The Euro at that point was 1.33 dollars and climbing. Arrogant, and comical. Why would he want to take dollars? It's the same for a lot of American tourists, they walk around with such arrogance and get confused when it's served back to them. A little humility goes a long way. When in Sicily, I ordered a Coke with my meal, and the waiter mumbled something like, "American wine." I could have been a wiseass (one of my greatest joys), but I swallowed my impulse. I'm glad because the Pasta alla Norma was the best I ever tasted.

Barcelona is a great city IMO. There's so much to do and so much culture around. You gotta go.
