Hi all,

I'm relocating to New York from Boston, and currently doing some apartment hunting. I was hoping to get some advice in terms of what sort of apartments I can expect to find, and perhaps, receive recommendations for a specific building.

I'm basically looking for a 1BD/1BA luxury apt in Manhattan, with a preference to be in Midtown on the east side (will be working next to Madison Sq Park). I'm willing to pay up to $2500-2600 for an apt, and would like to know if that's possible. Also, what sort of square footage can I expect in that price range?

Any tips/advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

V

Maybe 600-700 sqft on lower floors. Emphasis on maybe. Really depends on place and building and what concessions they are able to offer, so note that the asking rent may be different from the effective rent you'll be paying (if there's a gym in the apartment building do you consider that as part of the amount you'll save if you had to purchase gym membership outside?)...

Rhwobwoy,

Thanks for your reply. In terms of the gym membership, I would consider the "included" gym membership as saving provided that the gym is of comparable quality to an outside one.

I am actually going to check out an apartment at the Carnegie Mews building tomorrow. It's a 1BD (in the 30s floor-wise) that's 650sqft. It's 2450/month, but the great thing is that it's by owner, so no broker fee. I'm thinking that if I like it I'll put a deposit on it.

Thanks
