I just had a few questions, as I'm visiting NY at Christmas time and am planning to stay in my friends appartment while they go on holidays..

Firstly, what is the average apartment blocks stance on bringing in real Christmas trees to the appartments? Fire hazard at all, or would it be OK?

Secondly, are there any good eating places around 43rd street that may not be typically touristy, but are great for a good feed and mingling with the locals?

I was also just curious to see if anybody had any pictures of 43rd street which they wouldn't mind posting or guiding me to.

Much appreciated.

43rd St. on the east side or west side? Cross street?

West side I think, near Broadway?
Does that make sense? I'm not to familiar with NYC. :)
It crosses with 7th Ave.

You're right in the heart of Times Square.

Locals? Not sure there are any thereabouts.

You should ask your friend what the policy of the building is. I've never heard of a building that didn't allow X-Mas trees, but since you are a visitor and not a tenant, who knows? Make nice with the doorman at the apartment building if there is one. And just be aware that X-Mas trees in NYC are outrageously expensive!

McHales is great old Times Square joint, basically bar fare but good.

Noirish decor and world-class burgers make for a top-shelf Hell's Kitchen pubat 46th / 8th Ave for great old style Times Square bar / burgers atmosphere.

Angus McIndoe is a great theatre bar / restaurant -- lots of actors go there after their shows for food / drinks

The bar at the Royalton Hotel (44th between 5th / 6th Aves) is good.

The Algonquin Hotel (also 44th between 5th / 6th Aves) has the famous Oak Room -- worth just going in to take a look at this great place: http://www.algonquinhotel.com/index.asp

I was also just curious to see if anybody had any pictures of 43rd street which they wouldn't mind posting or guiding me to.

This is a shot from 42nd Street between 6th Ave. & Broadway looking across the construction site of the new Bank of America Tower -- the buildings at the right are on 43rd Street:

The building in the center is at the NE corner of 43rd / 6th Avenue:

Esca at 43rd and Ninth. A great restaurant.

There are a couple of others. I'm pretty sure both Don Giovanni and Moosehead Pub are on 43rd toward Ninth Ave. Fim Center Cafe onNinth Ave is popular with locals. There a good sports bar on the west side of Ninth Ave between 43rd & 44th if you enjoy that. Nice place, pub style food.

Go to McHales! It's a local pub with great burgers. It's been there for a long time but not for much longer. It closes in January to make way for a 40 storey building. Such is 'progress'!

Be sure you see all the windows at the big department stores & visit the open air Christmas markets.
