View Full Version : 2nd Avenue around 93rd Street - is this is a good area?

I am found an apartment in the area of 2nd Avenue and 93rd Street. This neighborhood used be OK at best. It seems to be getting much better now.

Is this a safe neighborhood (is it safe to walk around at night)? I saw a couple of public housing projects on 1st Ave. Should I be concerned?
Are there any good pre-K and elementary schools in the area?I don't have kids yet, but would like to know for the future.

Maybe someone who lives in the area can weigh in.

Thanks!

He's a regular at the brother jimmy's on 93rd and 3rd....

Seriously though, it's safe over there. I have a good friend who lives on 94th and 3rd, and I've never been afraid visiting her at any hour of the night. Just keep in mind that anything that you'd want to do is south of there, not north. Also keep in mind that in about a year and a half (hopefully), the road is going to be torn up around there for the first phase of the T train (2nd avenue subway).

Depends on if you believe in pixies and fairies or you take these things seriously...go there at your own peril...

BIG DIG ON 2ND AVE. SUBWAY SET FOR '08

September 26, 2006 -- Digging for the long-planned Second Avenue Subway will finally start in 2008...Phase 1 of the project calls for the construction of stations at East 96th, 86th, and 72nd streets, and a connection to existing tracks at 63rd Street. A giant hole will be dug between 92nd and 95th streets to allow the tunnel-boring machine to launch under ground...

Watch your buttocks...

"On May 31 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_31), 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005), Slater was arrested around 1:50 a.m. in Manhattan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan)'s Upper East Side (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_East_Side), near 93rd Street (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=93rd_Street&action=edit) and Third Avenue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Avenue_%28Manhattan%29), after a woman told police that a man had grabbed her buttocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttocks). She identified Slater as the man. Slater was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual abuse. The following July 14 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_14), prosecutors offered Slater a plea bargain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plea_bargain) but he refused it insisting the charges were false. On September 19 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_19), Slater agreed to an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal, whereby the case is adjourned for six months, and if during that time, he remains out of trouble, the charges are dismissed."

Brother Jimmies is one of my favourite haunts also. Check out Slater in the mens room - hey every man has his moment.

Although didnt that happen at the BJ around 73rd?

93rd and 2nd - you are a little distant to the nearest Barnes and Noble coffee but keep that taser handy and you'll feel great!

Hey, you’d be right near Kebap G…the only Berlin style Kebap stand in NYC.

That in and of itself is reason enough to live in that ‘hood!

Maybe in the outer-boroughs, but I don’t know of another Berlin style Kebap stand in Manhattan.

There are plenty of places to get a doner Kebap, but Kebap G is the only place I’ve found in Manhattan that prepares theirs as they do in Germany with shredded red cabbage.

If you know of another, please let me know where!

It's also the Turkish pide bread, as opposed to a regular pita.

You should try Kebap G and see what you’ve been missing. They give a 10% uniform discount. Cab drivers might qualify too :)

Cab drivers do qualify, I've eaten there. It's pretty good.

There is a new place in East Village. Have you tried it yet.It is called Kebab Garden and it's on Second Avenue between 7th and 8th streets..More selections..
