Crass attempt to rebrand Central Harlem for a more upscale market.

I don't live in this area so can't give you a full account, but I'm there pretty often. It's not too bad of an area. At the end of the day it's Harlem, no matter what fancy name realtors try to give it. A bunch of new condos have gone up and buildings being renovated, so its definitely changing. But theres still a lot of services missing that you would see if you go down a few blocks into the UWS. Some new restaurants, lounges, etc have popped up, but I dont really know what other commercial, retail development is planned for the area. Would be a shame not to spruce up this area a little bit more, and I don't mean a Gap, Banana Republic every 5 blocks.

Probably by real estate people, they are the ones who come up with those ridiculous acronyms. If not acronyms, they change the name of a neighborhood altogether.

They tried calling Morningside Heights SoHa at one point, and it's managed to attach itself to the titles of several establishments on Amsterdam Ave.

They should ditch that name. Too close to SoHo. North Central, maybe.

Purely from a marketing standpoint, "Central Park North" is brilliant.

Rolls off the tongue; takes its place with ritzy Central Park West and Central Park South.

When the Upper East Side is further along its downward curve, will it be re-Christened "Central Park East"?

Central Park North is a street, not a neighborhood. SoHa, on the other hand, is just hilarious.

Why hilarious? thats is how every single neighborhood in NYC gets its names South of Houston: SoHo, Triangle between canal: tribeca, NoHo: North of Houston, North of Litlle italy: NoLiTa then why not South Harlem SoHa. Learn more about NYC neighborhoods before making such a comments. Harlem is going to the same transformation that Clinton Hills, Williamsburg, Chealsea, Greenpoint, Carroll Garden etc went in the mid 80's. it takes a time. I was there when clinton hills and williamsburg were dangerous and isolated with no thoughts that they could have become what they are today. It is a cycle that no one can stop.

^ hmm... I guess maybe you don't have a sense of humor? That is why those names (that the real estate agents come up with) are not funny to you?
