Can anyone confirm of the Empire State Building has reopened it's 102nd floor observatory or not ?

The only information I can find is from the ESB website

http://www.esbnyc.com/tourism/tourism_observatory.cfm?CFID=13671844&CFTOKEN=43655305

but I'm amazed at the apparent lack of fanfare given all the press for the Rockefeller.

If it is open, has anyone been up this week ?

The Today Show did 2 hours on the TOTR one morning this week (but then NBC is owned by GE so it was in-house advertising).

That's what I mean. TOTR has has loads of press and plenty of posts from people (including myself) who have been up in the last week or so. I haven't seen a thing on the reopening of the 102nd Floor at the ESB - either press or a posting on any board.

And yet they choose November 1st in direct competition to TOTR ? Also, I can't believe that no-one over the past few days has gone on to any of the boards with the first pictures for 5 years. People were tripping over themselves to post photos from TOTR, but not a single photo/comment/post about ESB 102 (sorry - I've made it sound like an FM station). I just doesn't add up. Is it more likely that ESB have missed their proposed opening and kept very quiet, or that anyone who went to the 102nd floor has been underwhelmed by the difference ? I'm confused.

I was at the ESB three times last week - and saw nothing about anything other than the 86th floor.
There's a fair amount of internal renovation going on on the lower level - and they will be upgrading the 80th & 86th floors when this is complete.

If they are planning something with the 102nd floor - maybe they'll leave it until after all this work is finished to enhance the effect (and wait until the hoo-haa over the TOTR has died down a little).

I would thoughoughly recommend the 'Top of the Rock' - I was very fortunate to have an exclusive tour prior to it opening it's doors and it's stunning.
It scores over the ESB due to it's view of that very building, its midtown location puts you in amongst many other skyscrapers and a fantastic view of Central Park too.

After the reopening of the ESB (fantastic new!!) and ROCK observatories, are there possibilities about the reopening of the 71st floor of the CHRYSLER BUILDING?

I never did see an update on this. I'm back in Manhattan next week, so does anyone know if the 102nd floor did reopen and if so, is it worth a visit ?
