Hello,

Every year my wife and I go to Rockefeller Center for some Christmas cheer......had a question for my fellow New Yorkers about a restaurant that we went to that I cant remember the name of. It was on the outskirts of the Center, and I seem to recall reading inside the restaurant that when Rockefeller was buying up all the property to build the site, the owner of the building that the present day restaurant is in refused to sell to him (Rock), and he had to build the Center around this old building. The Rainbow Room was across the street, and this restaurant is supposedly a hotspot for NBC executives for drinks. The inside was all fancy darkwood.
The food was outstanding, but we eat out frequently and the name escapes us.....(tried a million google searches, and went to the Rock homepage with negative results).

Hope someone can help.....

Thanks.....you guys are good......

Shame....food was tight there and the crowd was pretty lively...was a nice mix of upper crust and vagabonds (I fall into the latter).

Thanks again.....
Nice site

If you are a true PhotoPig, would I not be seeing a photograph of the esteemed restaurant, right here, in this thread!?

^ more on Joseph's (how can it be that the name changed in 2003 and no one noticed?) ...

“Joseph's (formerly Citarella The Restaurant)”, February 2, 2003

Occasion:Night Out
Cuisine:Seafood
Area:Midtown
Cost:Break the Bank
Rating:Great

From the owner of Citarella chain of gourmet fish markets comes this upscale, modern Rockefeller Center-area restaurant. With access to the best fish in New York, Joseph;s is a seafood lover’s paradise, with a first rate sushi bar and lively, deep blue sea-toned, after-work cocktail lounge on the ground floor (with some of the most fantastic cocktails this side of Prohibition), and a more elegant, earth-toned dining digs upstairs. The kitchen offers creative takes on seasonal seafood entrees (crab cakes and sautéed sand dabs are signatures), and one or two dishes for meat eaters, though it would be a shame to miss the delicious dishes that honor the ocean’s bounty. Pastry chef Bill Yosses (also a Bouley alumn) is a wonder with sugar and spice and everything nice, so don't miss his whimsical creations. If his adult version of the Devil Dog is on the menu, order a few, and a glass of milk.Citarella the Restaurant
