Hi, I'm off to new york next week and i want to get in the mood. Can anyone suggest any great books based in NYC. Looking for anything from Autobiographies to fiction. Any help would be much apprecited

One more question, anyone now of any travel writing in new york...i.e Bill Bryson style stuff

The Catcher in the Rye is one of my all time favorites and it makes good use of NY locations. Also, The Bonfire of the Vanities, and a new one, Downtown by Pete Hamill are two more that come to mind.

I highly recommend Downtown by the way.
