Sup, I'm a 19 year old on his gap year looking to spend some time in new york and I want to know firstly if there are any good events going on, things to do etc... in the month of january. Perhaps some high class dos like fashion shows or some social events that I could get tickets to? Drinking age is a problem because where I come from it is a lot younger and I am also a smoker so I don't have much of an idea about what the rules are on cigarettes - that rules out binging on drinks for me, but does it rules out getting into clubs at all?

You'll be able to buy cigarettes, as you are older than 18, but you will not be able to buy alcohol legally as you must be 21.

You'll be able to get into a few clubs, but not bars. There's a list of underage venues somewhere on these boards. It will come up in a search.

Fashion shows don't sell tickets, but you could volunteer to work backstage at 7th on 6th.
