A collection from the Library of Congress of 45 short films depicting life in New York City from 1898 - 1906.

Click on List the Film Titles (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/S?ammem/papr:@FIELD(COLLID+newyork)).

A few good ones:

A view from the roof of the new Times Building
#26 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:26:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)

These two films together show a view of the shorline from a boat moving around lower Manhattan from the west side at Fulton St to the Brooklyn Bridge.
#38 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:38:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)
#30 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:30:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)

Excavation site of Penn Station, 1905
#33 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:33:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)

Horse and Carriage on the Harlem River Drive
#32 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:32:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)

Excavation at the site of the new Macy's, 1902
#5 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?papr:5:./temp/~ammem_8PJ8::)

The best format is MPEG

I could look at these all day.

Thanks, Zip ... These are great!

Here's one showing something we're not likely to see again ...

SUMMARY
A view of a snow-covered road in Central Park. A variety of horse-drawn sleighs ride by the camera from both directions.

Excellent find, comelade!!

How things have changed in a little over 100 years, eh? Hardly a recognizable structure on the entire vid -- save for one or two warehouse type structures along West St. in Tribeca, a few of the buildings along Park Row, Pier A, Castle Clinton and the Old Customs House at Battery Park.

Makes one wonder what NYC will look like in 2103?????

Castle Clinton's got a roof, Brooklyn's got a skyline. Great find, Comelade.
