Architecture and New York:
New New York 4: The Brooklyn Bridge Park
This exhibition will feature the master plan for the eighty-five acre Brooklyn Bridge Park site, designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates in collaboration with a consortium of architects, engineers, artists and other designers. The plan, which stretches from the base of the Manhattan Bridge to the terminus of Atlantic Avenue, envisions the transformation of the under-utilized waterfront site into a major recreational park. The exhibition will be comprised of a large-scale multi-part site model and renderings, as well as background information outlining the goals of the park's master-plan. The show will give New Yorkers a chance to study the plan in its entirety and to consider the landscape, ecological and architectural design ambitions that have shaped it.
Design firms and artists collaborating with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates include: Architecture Research Office; James Carpenter Design Associates; Cooper, Robertson & Partners; Ann Hamilton; Mathews Nielse Landscape Architects; Lynden B. Miller; Pentagram Design; Margie Ruddick Landscape; and Maryann Thompson Architects.
