Not sure which section to put this in or if it is of any interest but the UK 1841 census is now online. Many New Yorkers lived in the UK at this time and most would have passed through my home city (Liverpool) on their way to New York. If your ancestors were amongst them you can find where they lived in the UK and what they did here.

It's searchable and totally free. :)

Incidentally, you will shortly be able to trace which ship they sailed on through another database being put together by National Museums Liverpool.
