Does anyone have any new info on the on-going legal dispute between the owner of the building situated on the SW corner of Broadway / Houston (599 Broadway) and the artist Forrest Myers who in 1973 installed the site-specific sculpture "The Wall" on the north side of the building?

'The Wall' Will Rise Again in Soho

The Wall—the iconic minimalist scuplture (right) installed by artist Frosty Myers at 599 Broadway on the corner of Houston and Broadway back in the early 1970's, but removed for structural reasons in 2002—will rise again on the same wall. Per The Villager, 30 additional feet of wall space will be added so the beams that form the structure can rise higher, allowing for the installation of (you see this coming, right?) street-level billboards. 'The Wall' will also be lit at night for the first time.

An odd compromise, to be sure, but an oddly pleasing one nonetheless.

Just in case you haven't had enough of the color blue (http://curbed.com/archives/2007/09/04/critic_pens_love_letter_to_blue_really.php) today, we've got more
courtesy of sculptor Frosty Myers -- who clearly ain't singing the blues. His
iconic sculpture, The Wall, which rose above the intersection of Broadway
and Houston and greeted travelers to Soho for 30+ years is making a long (http://curbed.com/archives/2007/04/23/the_wall_will_rise_again_in_soho.php)
awaited comeback. The Wall was taken down in 2002. What followed was
an endless (http://www.curbed.com/archives/2005/03/03/sohos_the_wall_in_judges_hands.php) and expensive legal battle (http://curbed.com/archives/2005/05/23/sohos_the_wall_going_going_uh_already_gone.php). And, miracle of miracles, both sides
recently reached an amicable resolution, which allows for Myers to rebuild
his Wall.

The north wall of 599 Broadway at Houston Street.

New brickwork on the north facade of 599 Broadway has been on-going all
summer. Last week, workers covered it with various shades of blue. Painted
metal beams extending from the wall should be going up before too long.
And then, The Wall will be reborn. Downtowners will soon have the original
blue (no fancy Blue showers (http://curbed.com/archives/2007/08/30/blue_update_now_with_sizzling_outdoor_shower.php) here) to celebrate.

Looks even better in person -- the periwinkle color of the wall plays off the turquoise color of the beams. Right now the colors are very vibrant. I suggest trying to see it soon -- as vehicular traffic along the Houston / Broadway corridors will no doubt soon deposit ample amounts of grit & grime on the surface of The Wall to significantly diminish the visual impact.

I saw it today. It looks fantastic AND that centuries old scaffolding is finally coming down.

It really does make a huge difference. If only all those awful blank walls along Houston could be as artistic.
