looking to rent an apartment in Fort Greene

Hi everyone, I am looking to rent an apartment in the Fort Greene area. I have heard about the University Tower apts. Does anyone know if the neibhourhood is safe? Thanks.

I'm kinda curious myself about the neighborhood. I've been away from living in nyc a while, but I can tell you that in the 60's and the 70's, Fort Greene was not a safe neighborhood to live in.

Well, here we go again with the safety argument. I'll chime in early and try to keep quiet. First, NYC has changed a bit in 30 years, so if nothing else, the boldface is uncalled for if only because the advice is so out of date. Ft. Greene is a historically African American neighborhood - if that makes you uncomfortable, then there you are.

To my eyes it's in an advanced state of gentrification, so safety isn't much of a concern unless you are new to living in an urban neighborhood.
