Hi,
Am coming back to NewYork from England on the 3rd July on the Qm2,should be through customs by about 7.30 , the problem i have is that many people on the cruise critics forum are saying that there are no yellow cabs around the terminal at that time only Limo services who will probably charge me a fair bit more.
Need to get up to west 57th st, anyone know if this is the case with the yellow cabs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You can book a car through a number of car services -- the charge from Red Hook to Manhattan shouldn't be that much more than a yellow cab:

Tel Aviv Car:
800.222.9888
212.505.0555
Carmel Car:
800.922.7635
212.666.6666

I drive a yellow cab.. lett me tell you the real problem..

1... if you are debarking in Manhattan..... eversince 9/11, the security has been increased so much that it's, to be honest, waste of time for a yellow cab to wait 20 - 30 minutes trying to get up the ramp to get to you... so most will not bother anymore..but the city has created taxi stands on just about every block, across the highway from the piers..if you can get there, you will have easier time getting one...

2... if you are debarking in Red Hook, Brooklyn... Most cabbies don't even know the Pier exist yet, it is pretty new location for Cruise Ships... If you can walk to Hicks or Clinton Streets( maybe a 10 minutes walk), you can easily find a yellow cab and drag him back to the pier to get your luggage and perhaps others in your party..

for its location and a map of the site, visit:

Good Luck and enjoy your stay..:)

If you choose to take Lofter1's advice and book a car from any car service, make sure the reservation is timed so that they will not have to wait for you... they will charge you for waiting time if they end up waiting...;) I will assume you will be going to the Holiday Inn at W57th Street...Yellow cab should cost you around $25 to your destination...Take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the West Side Highway for a faster trip to W57th Street, it will be worth the $4 toll...

When you book with Tel Aviv / Carmel the practice is that you call them when you have disembarked and then they send the nearest car from their fleet to your location. They also have your travel info (you give it to them when you reserve) and supposedly the dispatcher stays up-to-date on arrivals.

Even when my plane has been hours late I've never had to pay for waiting time with either of those companies.
