    agree

the glass and simplicity of it is mind boggling beautiful. The fence is already dated, and seems out of place. Too busy. Maybe if they fence was a dark color it would look better.

I like the treatment, scale of the piers is too big for the facade

I think if the piers were 75% as wide the design would be stronger. It might be a bit much for that street. 40 Bond is a quiet very modern facade that blends in nicely (have yet to see the grafitti...
  3. loving 101 Warren

I have not been by in a while, and I love the thick stone piers. the building has some ummph, some charachter, and it's not just skin. It makes 200 Chambers look really cheap and ugly , which, well,...

Gehry's building was really starting to grow on me

Gehry's building was really starting to grow on me, especially as a stand alone object. I think the setbacks and scale of massing of IAC is much more appropriate than Nouvel's scaleless fishscales....
  7. very cool, one of Gehry's best

its so much better at night

    interesting pics

looks much better in the slightly overcast days. The glass looks richer, thicker, and truer to the original renderings.

    yup

The ceiling vaults were repetitive cast plaster forms.

the interior colums were stone clad around steel columns...

    perhaps

But until someone did a construction estimate to prove me wrong I'll stick to my guns. A lot of Penn Station was merely open space, open courts, high vaulted spaces. Yes it covered a lot of area, but...
  14. Obviously the wall is the elevator/stair core

Such a skinny tower site, it has to be the core pushed to one side to maximize views/layouts. On edit, it may be a structural shear wall, required to stiffen a slender building like this.

    I like...

Shed just went up, demo signs up, excavators parked on the garage roof.

    I like the post office

But if someone comes up with a truly awe inspiring plan that creates a new modern building with the stunning power of the old Penn Station, and it integrates Amtrak, LIRR and NJ Transit, I'll get out...
  19. is there some kind of internal mall on the corner?

    concrete bunker clad with glass

Imagine how the bottom of 7 WTC looks. Solid, no windows.
The Freedom Tower base is essentially a concrete bunker with minimal openings. To hide the fact it is a solid bunker, they are cladding it...
  23. I dig the south towers, dislike the north tower

The south towers are light, airy, and visually interesting. Far superior to the north tower.

The north tower is a massive wall, I think the structure is overbearing, intrusive, and out of scale...
  24. I forgot

    you are right

a very interesting view of the building is from CPW looking south. You see the 'blade' of one facade on edge.
  25. indeed

The glass on top will be interesting. It don't think it will be as transparent as the renderings suggested, but it could make or break the top.
I think it will be magic at night.
