The VSC is being flooded:

Sorry I can only post the link, apparently due to the picture format.
The flooding in that picture was caused by a storm surge, not merely rain. And Sandy's storm surge is forecast to be significantly higher.
We can only hope the forecasters are wrong.
Edit to...
I hate to be a gloomy Gus, but I just saw a picture of the storm surge caused by Hurricane Donna in 1960. It shows the intersection of West and Cortlandt Street (they did intersect in 1960) -- under...
Do you have a link to that October 2012 Progress Report? I can't seem to find it.
Does the NYPD security plan mean that the building of all those bus parking spaces on the bottom level of the Transportation Hub was a waste of time and money?
I believe we will soon know for sure where the new cranes are going to be placed. Tower sections are on trucks on the Church street side of the Hub.
True. I was not making sense. I was making sarcasm, indicating I did not appreciate your snide comment.
As the guy in the old Bartles & Jaymes ads used to say "...and thank you for your support."
That pavilion is going to be a jewel. I have never seen columns anything like these.
"So what happens in any building cantilever where all the static load is vertical?" -- Check out the history of Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater". And that cantilever was just supporting itself....
That accommodates the horizontal force vectors but doesn't help with the vertical vectors. The renderings I have seen (see page 191, post #2863, last image) appear to show that the base ends of the...
Yes, the ribs will attach to the ends of the short beams, but the ribs are going to provide vertical (upward) support to them. The main weight and loading thrust of the ribs has to be borne by the...
They are covering the tops of the rib bases with rebar with no apparent means of attaching the ribs. Does this mean that the ribs on this side are just going to sit on the concrete deck? Or is...
The matching set of pieces for the north end of the wall arrived on site today, Saturday, May 19.
Thank you. The camera labeled "Elevated View" shows approximately the same area as the "Tower 4" camera used to show. Now if KPI would just straighten out The 7 WTC camera...
Edit to add: The...
Does anyone know of any active video camera feeds that show the VSC? Since KPI TV went haywire and EarthCam doesn't show even the west end of the VSC anymore, we are (or at least I am) blind as to...
Thank you! That animation provides a much clearer picture of the supports than does the old picture I was using. I gather, since the weight of the rib is borne by the rib bases, that the bottom 25...
Just wonderful. Last night, they installed 10 or 11 horizontal beams to the inside of the rib bases on the north side of the oculus. The first 5 or 6 may be part of one of the east end entrance...
Thank you! It's no wonder I couldn't figure them out. I was focused on finding some heavy load to be placed on the beams and never thought that they were compensating for reduced support from below.
There are four large beams placed in that rectangular depression located near the west end of the transit level , to the left of the center line. I find that an unusual piece of construction. Does...
Some of the steel for first segment of the helix went up last week.
I believe those slabs will have something to do with escalators.
On edit: no they will not. They are much higher than I first thought.
That it did. Thanks for not going snarky on me.
