Developer Unveils Plans for Site Near Bryant Park

I also really like the use of the glass bricks on the floor and the ceiling. It adds an airy and modern feel to the entrance.
Gosh, that looks like the entrance of a modern transportation system. Could it be?
I wouldn't believe this if it weren't for the fact that Solow is known to be a rather eccentric guy to put it mildly.
Gosh, I really dislike the new version. It looks so flatter and blander than the original Richard Rogers design. It's not just the cross bracing that is missing but the corner notches, the death of...
It's bad enough that that bridge has the most absurd path, but the fact that it seems to have barely any ceiling height is ridiculous. On a project of this scale, couldn't we have gotten higher...
Wow, what a mammoth.
Are the cranes on top of 1 WTC around the height of the future spire/communications structure?
So much for "more beautiful" as Mr. Hill seems to consider his building in relation to its neighbors.
I still can't get over how awful the design is of the signature office towers. They look like bloated One Penn Plazas with tumors. So gross -- even their height can't compensate for their ugly retro...
How great would it be if they kept digging southward to Penn to create a new shuttle between two major hubs? One can dream...
Lighting up the underside of the newly painted FDR viaduct really makes the scene look neat at night.
I like Chicago as New York, Jr. It really feels that way -- like a bizarro New York. Although I wish we had their Michigan Avenue aka magnificent mile stretch that londonlawyer correctly raves about....
Are they floodlighting the building at night?
The death of an amazing tower :(
This is devastating. There isn't any other way about it. The vertical thrust and visual interest of this building is totally gone without the X-braces. I'm shocked Rogers agreed to this level of...
That's probably a good bet -- makes sense.
I see what you mean about the Transit Center itself not abutting the Corbin Building. But what is that taller opaque glass tower that is set back between the Transit Center and the Corbin Building?
I just noticed that as well -- I wonder why they couldn't match the Corbin Building's streetwall? It seems odd that the transit center is inset another few feet. I suppose they might have wanted to...
I'm of the same mind. It's fantastic that the stairway isn't disappearing but perhaps the most important part of the plan is the fact that WFC will actually be accessible to West Street with stores...
Anyone notice the stickers on the glass panes in front of the vent at 7 WTC?
Right
I would hate to try to clean the back of those glass panes.
Bad architects like to use it -- and mixed materials -- often to cover up bad design, poor materials quality, or bulky massing. The result is usually even worse though.
Agreed. Nothing has been in the news about the New Yorker being demo'd. That being said, if a building should be landmarked...this one should.
