Has anyone heard anymore about the Chelsea Market Residences? Have they presented to the planning committee, height/number of floors, target completion date, etc.?

Recently the Taxi repair shops closed on 11th Avenue between 23rd and 24th. It looks like three properties. A sign on the buildings said they moved and a second signs warns of pending asbestos removal.

This sign went up on West 19th street just east of the Ghery buidling. The demolition was just completed. Any one have a picture of the project?

That seems to be 540-544 W. 19th St. DOB shows no recent applications / permits.

New York Magazine (June 2006) labels that site as "Ateliers Jean Nouvel" (#11 on the map -- Gehry's IAC is #12):

NY Times (Dec. 18, 2005) :

Alf Naman, a principal with Alf Naman Real Estate Advisors, plans four projects and is considering a fifth along the High Line, which the city officially took possession of last month from CSX Transportation.

"The neighborhood would not be half as interesting if it didn't have the galleries, which bring vitality and life to an area that would otherwise be just a bunch of residential buildings," said Mr. Naman. One of his projects is a 20-story condo tower designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel ...

The Jean Nouvel building being built by Alf Naman, in partnership with Cape Advisors, is to be at 11th Avenue and 19th Street, in place of a parking lot.

(the proposed 20 story Nouvel building at the foot of the block will kind of wreck their views to the west)

Here's the DOB permit to the Nouvel building. I'm thinking that Beyer Blinder Belle are just the architects of record.

I use the "print screen" button to copy the pdf or flash page, then paste the whole page into Paint -- and then copy just the image and put that into a new Paint window and save them as jpegs (instead of bitmaps).

I've got the technique down now and can grab / save / upload images onto threads here pretty quick that way.

You show the correct address (535 - 541 W. 19th) for the "Nouvel" project, rather than what I had posted (540 - 544 W. 19th -- which would be between the IAC and the new Selldorf project at 520 W. 19th -- Google MAP below).

I walked by there today and they are drilling in the NE corner of the site.

Is it odd that BBB would be shown at DOB if Nouvel is designing the building?

I see that at Nouvel's 40 Mercer project DOB lists the Architect of Record for the "New Building" as Peter Claman of SCHUMAN, LICHENSTEIN, CLAMAN RA.

An interesting bit of info ...

The building that the Nouvel building will back up to on W. 20th (550 West 20th) is the Bayview Correctional Facility, a women's detention center since 1978 (some history HERE ). It is a fantastic if simple building with some nice brick work and some inset terra cotta tiles with images of ships ...

It was originally built in 1931 as the Seaman's House and run by the YMCA. It offered cheap housing for sailors and merchant marines. A recent ebay auction offered a matchbook for sale (there were images on the ebay post but they're down now -- the auction is over -- bidder got them for $1.12):

Two old front strike matchcovers from New York YMCAs. One in New York City, 550 West 20th Street is the Seaman's House for men of the Merchant Marine. Room & Board $4 and up per week. The other is from Brooklyn and is called the Navy Y.M.C.A. Covers only, no matches

Of particular interest is the fact that the architect for this building was Shreve, Lamb & Harmon (Empire State Building, among others) as can be seen on the original Certificate of Occupancy from 1931
