good grief, soon there won't be anything left of the restaurants and shops that used to be all along that stretch. What a shame!!! I hope they're not taking down the nice little Turkish cafe on that block!! this SUCKS.

You mean to tell me that a neighborhood can't survive on the bank branch, chain drug store and condo sales office that will eventually replace those restaurants and shops?

HFZ Capital's website shows the following for 303 E51st Street:

Demo permits were filed for the remainder of 2nd Ave walk-ups a few days ago.

Taking into consideration of what they did at 440 Park, CIM Group just doesn't like East Side walk-ups.

Well, they're building a 32 story tower here. There are renderings on their website.

There's a monstrosity of a motel rising on the south side of 52nd btw 3rd Ave and 2nd Ave. It's among a fresh crop of motels that don't align with the streetwall, and they're ruining Midtown East, the Garmen District and the Penn Station area.

And yet...except for these type of discussion forums, no one else--no city official, no community board, no neighbors, the media--nobody in the city seem to care about that problem.

    Go figure.

I know. It's shocking, inexplicable, and scandalous.

Here is (1) what may be the most prominent trend in NY architecture in terms of square footage, with a greater impact on more of the city than the WTC, Atlantic Yards, etc.; (2) the worst architecture around ... and yet the officials and critics spend their time blasting oh, I don't know, Nouvel's Tour Verre; and (3) easily the greatest threat to the city's history and architectural integrity.

With the tenements in front demolished, you can now see this tower from 2nd Ave

It seems some balconies have already been removed

Is there a podium that's supposed to front 2nd avenue?

So silly those walk-ups had to be demolished. Our zoning sucks and our city officials are too clueless.

I agree. The wangs who run this city (excluding our great mayor) need to stop these schmuck "developers" from destroying older structures and replacing them with crap.
