Um, yeah, don't ever say that again.

WTC 2 has a scheme where the glass starts out dark at the base and transitions to get lighter and lighter... if you didn't already know.
I've only read one report of that. If you're getting that from the renders, I belive that the effect is a horrible attempt to simulate urban shadows. Renders of 2WTC done by dBox, RRP and Team Macarie show a solid color.

If that's some inside information, I'd like to know more details.

STR, could you do North-East-South-West panoramas from the Freedom Tower's observation deck height?

    EDIT--
"Since the tower is skewed from Manhattan's pseudo-north alignment, do you think that will make it more difficult to see Midtown?"

Looking North will be no problem; in fact, it looks like it'll provide the perfect viewing window(s).
Perhaps the corners will be known for their crowding...
    --EDIT

    P.S. I want a full-sized wall poster of this:

    Default Nice renderings

    hello STR.!

I've just jumped on this forum because I'm getting interested by the ne design of the WTC tower, as I've been to a conference of SOM two years ago, David Child explaining the concept etc.
Besides, I've designed once during my study a skyscraper in 3D and may I ask you what kind of render engine do you use ? Is it Vray, Brazil, Mental ray ?

It's pretty realistic, and the last renderings of the towers of the WTC are amazing! Did you done on of those as well ?

Thank you very much for your answer.

STR uses 3Ds Max. I only reply for him because I, and others, have asked him this question previously, and I want him to keep working on his fabulous renderings of the new and old WTC rather than answering it again.

    Wink thank you

    Hey MrShakespeare,
Thanks for your quick reply. I can understand it's getting annoying for people to ear the same questions always and always...We all agree it's an amazing project, and that the modeler might don't have time to answer stupid questions. Anyway, as i'm a graphic person, I wanted to know the rendering engine, not the modeling engine '3Dsmax' which I'm using too everyday. So do you know, as you answer for him, which pluging does he use ?

    Thank you Shakespeare.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. No offense intended with my prior post.

It's Ok, I wait for SRT to answer.

Mental Ray, as included in Max 7. It's a daylight system with final gather for caustics and raytracing for everything. Render times average 3 to 15 minutes for the standard 900x1200 frame.

    Hello,
It's a good timing average for the rendering. I didn't know that we could have such effect with the basic realistic render of 3ds. For my part I'm using Vray, but I think we have the kind of same result...Last questions ;o), on which system are you working to get those fast render, and is it a hdri map for the reflect of your glass?
Ok I'm done with this. If you have time to answer it's great, but work on it and keep to good job! Your work is very nice. I assume you're part of the SOM firm or a graphic company ?

It's a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 1GB of RAM and a GeFroce 6800GT modded to a Quadro 4500 (although gfx cards don't effect rendering time). So basically, a state-of-the-art PC about 3-4 years ago.

As I said, everything is raytraced. Shadows, reflections, and refractions.

STR, could you do a Version 2.0 of this one?:

So we can get a more "final product" kind of view... Thanks!

What will be the dimensions of the top floor of the new 1 WTC?
