Agree with all the comments. First rendering had some redeeming qualities given its boxy shape. The more recent rendering makes the bldg looks like one of those old computer keypunch cards from the 1970's. I expected better from Arquitectos.

Note that it still has the corner wrap-around windows set into a masonry-type facade, which will do much to seta it apart from almost every other building in town (similar to what's been done at 290 Mulberry).

All the same it's clear when looking at the new v. old renderings ( http://www.ten-arquitectos.com/ ) that the number of windows on the west exposure has decreased significantly, which makes me wonder if they've decided to adjust the interior configuration and create more smaller-sized units.

It also appears that the window openings are much smaller than first seen in the renderings from 2006.

The clincher will be the facade material, which I think at one point was intended to be glazed terracotta.

Side Note: A little bit of history for 70 West 45th

I've read that the facade will be metal panels.

    some rendering history:

    first draft

    round 2

    current

The current version doesn't look much different from the previous version, except for the base. It is also missing the wall decoration on the neighboring building, but this could be due to hasty rending -- you can see the crane in the render.

That west facade keeps losing windows - and getting smaller ones to boot.

Too much wall, not enough windows.

It's subtle but the tower tapers...
Had to go the Herman Miller showroom yesterday and took these.

At least from your POV it'll hide most of that terrible looking French hotel.

It appeared that it might from some angles on the TEN Arquitectos website. It also might have a slanted roof like 11 TSq.

The latest rendering make me see it as a white Wang.
