The entire facade here (both buildings) facing onto Broadway have been demo-ed.
The Application for that demolition was Approved on 6/18/2013 and Permit Issued on 9/24/2013.
DEMOLITION OF EXISTING FLOORS AND FRONT BACK FACADE OF THE TWO EXISTING S STORY BUILDINGS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALT1 104402816 Related BIS Job Numbers: 104402816
That related Job is the original Alt 1 Application, which retained the two 5-story structures and was a Vertical Enlargement of the existing building:
General construction in conjunction with RESIDENTIAL CONVERSION PORTION
EXISTING 5 STORY COMMERCIAL BUILDING AND new vertical enlargement. Obtain new
C of O.
But now, with this demo, there's nothing of the original "existing" building left, so the Vertical Enlargement has morphed into what seemingly should be a New Building Application.
The DOB Job Overview shows no such New Building Application for 5 Franklin Place.
Developer Trickery at DOB????
MODS: Should the title of this thread be changed?
It is no longer just a proposal, or 21 stories or designed by Ben Van Berkel
Current project is for 19 stories

I hope that the 2 POS buildings nearby that used to house P&S Fabrics is redeveloped soon,
I hear those buildings are for sale again and there are interested in buyers. However, the owner has backed out in the past when close to a deal. There are lots of air rights available for those two buildings, I assume somebody will build quite the tower in the near future once a sale happens.
Thanks, Josh. They appear to have temporary tenants who are probably on short (if not month-to-month) leases.
Inspiration from 88 Leonard St. Another slap in the face to Broadway.
An unfortunate consequence of not including the three block stretch of Broadway in the historic district.
Heard it will be completed by spring
