Thread: 290 Mulberry at Houston - by SHoP Architects

I made the same mistake until I noticed the stairway is three floor. Unless you put it in the middle of the unit, where it would take up plenty of space, it would normally go against a blank wall. So you can regard it as adding light, and a little drama, to the space.

    Lightbulb South-side:staircase windows

Yes, I see now, I did not notice that there were also wrap around windows on the south side (rear) of the building. Given that most of the buildings around in the area are low-rise, there must be some great views from those staircase windows.

Beautiful architecture - inside & out - what an improvement the the neighborhood.

    Arrow Site photos on Curbed.com

Some news & site photos were posted on curbed today: the curvy facade is now being installed - and (as it turns-out ) the prefab brick panels look great. http://curbed.com/tags/290-mulberry-street

The thickness of the panels should make for great insulation properties.

^^ It depends on how well the joints are sealed as well.

Wow. I'm loving this siding now that it's going up on the building.

    Thanks for the pics Lofter.

It's like a domestic version of the Socony-Mobil or Tishman buildings, and if someone were to tell me it went up in the same time period as those I wouldn't even blink.

I was thinking the same thing.

Here's a look at robotic bricklaying.

    Fascinating ^

(but the robotic link is funky; go here: http://www.monocle.com/sections/busi...ng-the-future/ )

Any info on who is doing the brickwork for 290 Mulberry?

    Acoustical, not thermal.

Lots of progress on the facade here ...

The north side of the Penthouse has the walls up, and the terraced balconies are enclosed ...

The big corner windows have now taken shape ...

    I am crazy about this.

Quick: am I stretching things, or does something about it recall the Queen Anne style?

If there were space, you would want to plant hydrengias around this building.

And the color is great too. A mix of brown, purple, grey. I once did a dress collection in that color... I called it "bruise". It was huge flop. The world wasn't ready yet.
