Next on the list of demolitions should be that squat 80's style reflective glass office building to the north.

It seems that might actually be ready for the wrecking ball. That whole 6th Ave frontage between 30th and 31st is wrapped in construction shedding. However, the building at the corner of 31st and 6th is rather nice.

Yea, shame that they're tearing that one down. They just finished putting up scaffolding on the reflective glass building.

    Taken yesterday.

    Taken exactly one month ago.

I'm digging the crazy angle of the back of the building on the left. Got to love historic lot lines

To add further to all the confusion over the height and number of floors for this project, here's a brief mention of it in a NYT article today:

...The company’s chief executive, Michael A. Depatie, has said he wants to double the company’s hotels by 2012, and increase its hotels in the New York market to 20 by 2017. In addition to the Vu, it will also manage a new 290-room hotel in a 50-story mixed-use tower at 839 Avenue of the Americas, at 30th Street. As yet unnamed, this hotel will be developed by the JD Carlisle Group and is to open in 2009...

    Still excavating, loudly.

Looks like they've gone through numerous schemes on this one since the height, units, and floor area keep changing. The renderings posted seem to be of the 46 story version. Here's the latest permit. Another 500 footer as Midtown progresses south.

    839 Sixth Avenue
    835-851 Sixth Avenue/ 101-113 West 29th Street/ 100-108 West 30th Street
    53 stories 614 feet (D.O.B.)
    Perkins Eastman Architects, P.C.
    J. D. Carlisle Development Corporation
    Mixed-Use 626,540 Sq. Ft.
    Retail: Floors 1-2
    Hotel: Floors 2-?; 250 Rooms
    Residential Condominium: 302 units
    Under Construction Spring 2007-2009

614' will be taller than Sky House but shorter than the Epic.

They've erected scaffolding all along the 80's box next door since the picture was taken earlier this week. Hopefully that tower will rise higher than the 37 stories proposed.

They're finally almost done excavating. I want to see the new taller design.

    What new taller design?

    Isn't this the design?

I hope that is still the design, it is sexy as hell. Although I am eager to see what it will really look like.

The only regrettable thing about that design is the open lot between it and its neighbors to the west. There should be a continuous streetwall.

The rendering is from when it was 46 stories. The permits were revised to 53 stories, 614 feet. I bet it's the same design w/ floors added.
