    Default Eating Out

Visiting NY in a few weeks, anyone recommend some decent eating places?
Some that have been mentioned to me include: Carmines, Little Frankie's, Tribeca Bar & Grill, Gotham Bar & Grill, Union Square Cafe - any comments about those or others would be appreciated. Thanks.

For a classic NYC Italian experience try John's in the East Village at 302 E. 12th Street (been around since 1908)

For really good and not too expensive Italian-Italian try OTTO on 8th Street near Fifth Avenue (Mario Batali's place). They call it a pizzeria but there's lots more than pizza there.

Batali has another pricey place with excellent food in GV near Washington Square: BABBO

I like Babbo for Italian. Kliq6 is correct- Carmine's is hideous.

Good place, but his new one Del Posto is even better. Otto has some dahm good pizza as well with very non-Batali prices

I hear the Del Posto has fantastic food -- but that the atmosphere is, shall we say, stuffy. True?

    Me loves OTTO

I have to ask- Shocka, have you eaten much Italian in NYC? Angelo's is competent for a typical red-sauce-Italian-place-in-Little-Italy, but I don't know of anyone who actually goes to Little Italy to eat Italian food. I'm curious as to whether you had some incredible experience there or what.

    Cool Aussie22

I'm from Sydney Australia can anyone tell me the truth, does the Italian mafia still take a commission from Italian Restaurants, or they don't exist anymore. I don't like much Italian food I carn't eat Spaggetti on Rice it doesn't go with me or my cultural people.
