Stone me if you must, but it actually sort of blends in. Won't be able to say for sure when it reaches full height.

Dogs naturally try to scratch grass and dirt over their own mess. Sometimes the pile is just too big.

My only concern with this project is the raw concrete facade: to looks lousy - blotchy, dirty, cheap. As for the overall form; tall, thin with those well proportioned large window all in perfect alignment - that part is fantastic looking.

No one will see the concrete facade except at ground level. Hopefully they will do something there to make it look good.

Take a look at the US Embassy building: this, http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showth...l=1#post437851 , is what need be done - the facade on the embassy building is clearly visible up to at least the height of the 20th floor. That entire facade on the US embassy building is poured concrete formwork; and it looks great, not as good as real stone, but at least has a 'finished' look.......

So 450 Park's lot wall is all but 100% guaranteed to remain largely uncovered at this point. Looks like Drake Hotel's ghost will continue hovering over the Park Ave approach til time immemorial.

They're putting a mechanical space facing Park? Who's brilliant idea was that? I would have buried this midblock, or on a roof. AFAIK, these don't go against the FAR. I would also have left some of the development rights on Park, and built some commercial space.

That may be the retail component, or maybe they're assembling the mechanical space on-site before hoisting it to the top with a helicopter:

So they'll have ground floor retail, with mechanical space above? That structural steel looks permanent.
