Depending on where you are in Queens, you're catching it at a wider angle (since it's square, it has a fat angle at the corners - 7WTC suffers from the same issue at the wrong angles) and with the construction elevators, which are huge compared to a svelte building (I imagine they protrude nearly 20 ft from a building that is only 93 ft wide).

Where's Waldo? You might think it's a smoke stack.

What can we do? It's like fighting cancer, or trying to control the tide.

We'll have to see how it meets the street, but what is visible - its presence on the skyline - really isn't that bad.

I would absolutely prefer to have the Drake Hotel and the beautiful 19th-century townhouses that were razed for this.

BUT compare it to the real blight in the city: Gene Kaufman-style el cheap-o hotels. They are DISGUSTING, and that (not 3 or 4 ultra-talls) is what's really metastasizing.

I was shocked and horrified by the Holiday Inn (courtesy of NY'a Architerrorist, Eugene Kaufman) on Washington Street the other day. I hadn't seen it in person. Talk about a wonderful set of beautiful old buildings raped, killed and dismembered by one of the ugliest (non-abandoned, not-in-Detroit-or-provincial-Russia) buildings I"ve ever seen. THAT, not this, is the real problem in the city.

I would have preferred a shorter building with setbacks and a crown, but I've come to like this nonetheless (if the concrete gets cleaned). It has transformed the skyline.
