There was a rendering inside the lobby of 90 Washington a while ago. Very dull.

Jahn & Juul-Hansen's 50 West St. Gets Gorgeous New Renders

May 29, 2014, by Zoe Rosenberg

The most thorough set of renderings to date have emerged for 50 West Street, the Time Equities tower that's been in the works for at least the last ten years. The site that's been owned by the developer since 1983 has nothing to show for its efforts—yet—as YIMBY notes the tower is still in its excavation stage. When complete, it will be one of the taller residential buildings in the city, at 64 stories and 783 feet. Helmut Jahn designed 50 West Street while the increasingly ubiquitous Thomas Juul-Hansen will handle the interiors of its 191 condos. The tower's first interior renderings only provide a small glimpse inside, appearing mostly to boast the downtown 'scraper's views and oft double-height ceilings.

Following Hurricane Sandy, Jahn made some storm-smart design changes, like moving the mechanicals out of the basement to the sixth floor and raising the lobby by three feet. The building will also have a fourth floor generator.

50 West launched its teaser site in December with an announcement of Spring 2014 availability. They really are drawing this one out. Completion is expected in 2016.

Nice! Now, we need to get rid of the brown POS to the north and the garage to the south. Capping the tunnel entrance would be nice too.

Love this building, wish they would come out the ground already.

1WTC seems to have a positive effect on newer buildings in LoMan.

Speaking of that brown POS to the north, they're stripping the facade off of it. Reclad, maybe?

    That's better than nothing.

There will be a unique opportunity to photograph the building when it finally does start to "come out of the ground" - take a look at the adjacent public parking facility. http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showth...l=1#post306150

I have photographed the site from the upper levels of this this garage by simply walking into the lobby and taking the elevator to one of the upper levels; I will try it again some time soon if the same ease-of-access still exists at this location.

The is going to another great NYC building to observe as the process progresses from concept to completion - stay tuned, an subscribe to this thread for further developments all my fellow YIMBY's.

Never, most likely. Or not in our lifetimes. Maybe build on top of it.

In a 15 years or so Downtown won't have any development sites left, so expect the garage to hit the chopping block then. There's already been two visions in the past decade to replace it.

Unfortunately, when they run out of development sites, they'll just tear down anything underbuilt and not landmarked, even great looking buildings. There's still quite a few of those Downtown.

There is a lot of activity on this site lately: much progress with the poured concrete and rebar - at or above grade as of today. The video posted below ends with a shot of the municipal parking garage directly behind this site, the point at which I took several photos from the 3 rd floor level - photos to be posted here soon. Stay tuned this channel ( thread ) folks: some nice construction progress photos coming soon.
