Thread: 50 West Street - by Helmut Jahn

The biggest problem with 90 Washington was the prominence of its ugly blank wall on the skyline; no longer an issue.

Assuming new windows, ironically it'll look a lot like the hotel across the street. When the Syms site gets developed, 90 Washington will become more a nondescript fill building.

Great shots. I've complained that this building is not in a good enough location, but it's not so bad.

As the building gets taller, the location - as far as visibility - improves.

I do think the building is in a poor location - right now. The neighborhood needs improvement.

Every few years, someone circulates a pretty design to put a platform over the tunnel entrance and make it a nice park. But no one ever lifts a finger to move it past the pretty picture stage, notwithstanding that the development opportunities could probably fund the whole thing. That's City government.

And those bike lanes/sidewalks in front of Brookfield seem to be taking forever. Might be winter by the time they're done. One thing this area can't have enough of is walking space. There is a bit of a bottleneck beside 1 WTC, on Saturday people were all in the street. That can't be safe and all the food carts aren't helping at Vesey & West Street.
