Default Williamsburg area... safe? also.. commute time?

Hey everyone.. I'm looking in the Williamsburg area, specifically in the area where Flushing and Bushwick intersect. How is this area? safe? Can I walk from the Montrose L train station down to Flushing at like 10 PM with my laptop case?

Also, how bad is the rush hour at the montrose L stop in the morning? at 8:30 AM on a weekday, would I be standing around waiting a half hour for a train?

    Thanks.
