Photos: See 1960s And 1970s NYC Through One Man's Camera Lens

    By Jen Carlson

If you want to travel back to New York City in the late 1960s and early 1970s, look no further than Tom Riggle's time machine—aka his Flickr account, where he's uploaded nearly 200 photos from his dad's personal collection from that time. Riggle was kind enough to share the photos with us, and you can click through to get a look at Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Columbia, and even parts of Brooklyn... decades and decades ago, when everything just looked cooler—you hardly ever see poodles in convertibles anymore.

He tells us, "We lived in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn. Fort Hamilton. I went to the high school of the same name. I have lots of memories of these trips we took around the city, just one being when we went up inside the Statue of Liberty, looking out of the windows from the head. You can see me and my brother in these pics, and my sister as well. I am the teenager often with a camera or binoculars. As you can see from this site, I have been bitten by the same photo bug as my dad."

The movie marquees date this to 1961. Amazing that this scene was 53 years ago.

    6th Ave/RCMH shot from 1965

Times Square 1963. I used to think a Castro convertible was a car.

LES traffic. Similar to a Cushman shot. Probably late 50's-early 1960.

Wish I could credit the photographers, but they're unknown.

Thanks Merry. Riggle should watermark his photos so he's given credit. I've seen them in a few places with no idea where they came from.

Great photo! Almost all of those buildings are beauties.

The boxy one on the left is 2 Broadway, I think, built in 1958.
