The new costruction pushed out the Chelsea Grill, a Cajun restaurant (can't remember the name) Suite 16 nightclub and a pizza place. All were fairly well-established.

Are we sure this hasn't stalled? I have yet to see any construction over the past year. Maybe we'll get something less hideous?

    ^ We can only hope.

Anyway, the housing and economic slump has put a few projects on hold. This may be one of them.

About two weeks ago there were some big machines on the site digging out dirt and loading it into trucks -- a full crew on site.

This project has a subway entrance adjacent. Perhaps that is complicating it.

Just saw some activity there today during lunch. Does anyone know if there will be any apartments coming up there?

I swear they have just been pushing dirt around for a year now. I could excuse this hideous beast of a building if it went up in a timely manner but instead, we're left with a huge hole in the ground and wooden advertising fences.

Almost a year after they started construction, they're finally putting in some steel beams at this site. At this rate it might be ready by 2015 or so.

hang on i'll get some pics -- i live a block away.

worst of all the sidewalk is really narrowed badly along 8th avenue in front of this stagnant mess. i really hope there is some progress -- it's shameful.

I walked by yesterday and I can confirm there was steel poking up from the ground. FINALLY! It's sad it will be so ugly though.

as promised, these are from this morning. at long last somethings happening.

i am so happy about that as the sidewalks on 8th ave are crazy narrowed & congested, can't wait for them to get back to normal.

yes indeed i can confirm lots of construction action & that steel has risen out of the pit. given the economic crisis this is especially great news.

I notice that they are working on facade of the ~ 20-year old residential thing across Eighth Avenue. It hasn't aged all that well and is an example of lots of stupid balconies. Do people -- other than visitors to the apartments --ever use those?
