There's a St. Jaques in Montreal.

Really an incredible thread, I've been transfixed for the last hour or so. A lot of contemprary NY has got a retro feel to it, these pictures show when that was the real thing - and as someone else has pointed out, there's so much to relate to if you grew up watching those TV shows and movies.

One question: that Village Cigars shop is featured in so many of the pictures, was that (is that still) like the very heart of the west village?

Yep. Christopher St and 7th Avenue South... Good Ol' Village Cigars.

Finding this site was a real treasure. I moved back to NYC in 1973 and these are a blast. A yeoman task to scan & post these. All appreciation & gratitude. Happy holiday to all.

I was pleased to see this on Stumble - These photos showed all my old stomping grounds growing up in New York during the 60's & 70's. I was about to become a go go dancer on 42 St in '75, when I decided to go to France instead.

These pics show a special time in NY - an iconic era. My kids were fascinated to see what I came from.

Ah, thank you, I was going nuts trying to work out where this was too.

Are those two wonderful old buildings in the foreground in the first photo gone or are they just hidden behind the newer ones?
