Thread: 1970's New York City

  1. #16

Thanks for these pics and the effort in posting them (I also appreciated the video thread).

Easy to forget how scruffy NYC was back then. Fun, wonderful, creative.... but man was it broken down.

    From Allen Tannenbaum:

Check out all the galleries for more. I remember Lofter posting some of the club pics a few years back.

A grittier (some would say seedier) Times Square

Kids, scroll up to the shot of TimesSquare. That's 46th looking up toward 47th. Note the garbage and the grimey, falling-down look of everthing... quite a different scene today. Check Acme Ad and Bashas Ad.

( "I Love My Wife" and "Bubbling Brown Sugar" place the year to be 1977 )

    Gotta love the old cabs

Very nice (again). I like the Ferrara cafe/bakery picture from Little Italy.

Also, the old cabs in some of the pictures are really funny.

    Thanks for sharing,

Radiohead I have the book where you took most of these pictures from. Picked it up for a dollar I think. Its in storage right now, what's the name again?

It's NY, A Picture Book To Remember Her By, from 1978. I too picked it up for a song years ago.

I wonder if this is the same book, but revised.
